Tilton Clutch Master for Ford T5 builds
 

Hi All,

I just wanted to share my experiences with everyone on my clutch setup. I recently replaced my clutch master with a Tilton 75-Series Universal Master Cylinder Kits 75-875U (Thanks V8MiataMike for the tip).

This master will eliminate the clutch adjustment issues often experienced when utilising Monster Miata's Datsun truck clutch master and the Miata slave. The clutch slave needs a LOT of preload on the slave rod adjuster to work properly. What this will do is wear the thrust bearing prematurely.

However by simply replacing the monster Miata clutch master with the Tilton 75-Series Universal Master Cylinder the Miata slave cylinder now has so much more throw. This means you can remove the preload completely and still get full extension from the slave thereby making clutch adjustment a breeze. Simply adjust the slave push rod until the thrust bearing is just touching the clutch pressure plate and that's it. The extra throw from the bigger Tillton master will ensure that the clutch is then fully disengaged. The Tilton is a very good quality USA made unit and it feels a lot more solid as far as clutch operation goes. The only downside is there is an increase in pedal effort, not a lot but its noticeable.

If you are running the monster Miata kit clutch master I highly recommend that you replace it with this unit.

I went with this too (also acting on the tip from V8MiataMike). I totally agree with your statements and observations. I had to enlarge the hole through the firewall slightly with a die grinder to get it to fit, but no big deal.
