Default T5 score!

Just had to crow about my bargain of the week. The T5 that currently lives in my little 5.0 car is from a 4 cylinder Mustang with a .85 or .86 5th gear. Even with 3.08s in the 8.8 rear it's not the best freeway cruiser.

Well yesterday thinking that after Christmas the guy with the 2002 Mustang V6 T5 on Craigslist (for two months) might appreciate a paying customer.... I offered 200 bucks and he accepted.

Before you think V6 T5 YUCK, not the case at all. Based on my research the 3.8 V6 T5 from 1999-2004 is the same tranny used in the 94-95 GT v8 cars. To use in a pre 94 v8 application you'll need to deal with the following, slightly longer input shaft (shorten with portaband is the low buck fix, or buy a new input shaft), electronic speedometer (install old gear driven speedometer transmission tailshaft housing and follow easy procedure to install speedometer drive gear), there are a couple other simple changes required but that's about it.

What you get in the 99-04 3.8 V6 tranny is one that likely hasn't been beat to death by boy racer, same World Class good high strength gear set as in the 94/95 v8 cars with 3.35 1st with .68 5th.

Now to deal with my engine noise, install larger pilot shaft bushing (small one required for the current 4 cyl. tranny) and enjoy low rpm 75/80 mph cruising.
