Default T56 slave cylinder and master cylinder

My clutch went out after around 3000 miles. There is fluid leaking from the front of the transmission and the master cylinder is very low. I know there is some type of issue with the slave. I am using a stock replacement clutch and slave cylinder. I purchased the master cylinder from Martin and it's a 7/8 inch bore. Based on what I've read the stock Camaro master cylinder is a 3/4 inch bore and a 1 inch stroke. Best I can determine is that the stock clutch pedal on the Miata has around a 3/4 throw. As best I can determine is that the two push the same volume of fluid. I'm just a bit concerned that I overextended the slave. I haven't removed the trans yet and plan on doing it this weekend. Just looking for anyone's thoughts on this subject.

I had a slave failure. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

You might check the position of the master cylinder piston. When at rest, the bypass port should allow fluid to pass thru from the cylinder to the reservoir, effectively venting the clutch pressure line to atmosphere. If it doesn't become uncovered by the piston when the clutch is released, pressure can build up in the system and result in the slave not being able to retract. Typically the master cylinder piston has to be bottomed out, which, if there is free play, is usually the case. Might be the cause of this sort of failure. It's sort of a long shot, but its worth a look.

I did have the issue you described early on but I shortened the rod from the pedal to the master by approx. 1/4 inch so that there was no pre-load on the master. Maybe that started the premature wear and subsequent failure.

Shortened the pedal push rod to the master cylinder, adjusted free play and put a .055 shim behind new slave cylinder. I think this should fix the problem. I drove it around neighborhood today and everything seems good.
