Newbie Questions, Part II

Questions I'm wondering about (NA platform):
-T56 trans, are they all the same ratio's or do different units have different ratio's, what are the ratio's?
-T5 trans, same questions as above and how much torque can they take?
-Are the factory spindles, wheel bearings and 4 bolt hubs up to the task of a seriously fast V8 Miata? or are stinking fast cars upgrading to some type of heavier duty gear?
-While I'm on the topic of fast, What is the fastest known Miata in existance (outright speed, big numbers-long haul, not 1/4 mile)? Not internet folklore but actual recorded proven "this is the guy" car? And the quickest (1/4 mile)?
Thanks for the input.
Rick:)

T56's came with a 2.66 first gear in the F-body and a 2.97 first gear in the GTO's. Get the F-body trans.

T5's came in about 50 different configurations as far as gearing

The hubs are pretty decent, and the lack of room for a large gumball tire and the vehicles ability to stay fairly light even with the V8 allows them to last. V8R has a new front spindle setup that is really trick. Once my stock hubs fail, I'll be heading that route.

Thanks for the heads up,
I take it V8R has a lot of stuff not on their web site then.
Whats the tallest 6th gear then?
And the same for the T5?
What I'm trying to flush out is what trany combo will give me the lowest RPM at highway speeds (ie: fastest top end) yet still give me a decently low 1st gear to pull away with.
I also don't want to invest money in a wheel/tire set up that bolts to a marginal hub/bearing bolt pattern. Cheaper to go overkill on the first go IMO (If its required).
Thanks
Rick

The aero dynamics of the miata are not that great for going fast. What does fast mean to you? I have had my car to 165 mph a few times which would be about 265 kilometers per hour. I can tell you that from 140mph to 165mph the wind sounds about twice as loud and the car no longer feels very stable at 165 mph. Go to http://www.dragtimes.com/Mazda--Miat...ag-Racing.html to see a list of the fastest miatas that I know of in the 1/4 mile.

BTW with spray it is still pulling very hard at 165mph and I still have plenty of gear left.

Cool site, thanks for the link.
Fast to me is relivant to the vehicle your in, My Samurai can be a handfull at about 100 kph, my T/A felt solid as a rock at 145mph.
165 and 10.70's appears to be haulin arse in this platform, kudo's.
What I was looking for was a hi tide mark of whats possible and what one should/could expect.
Thanks
Rick

At 140mph, my turbo setup felt VERY light and twitchy, where the FRC felt dead stable at 170+. The only aero I have is a stock Miata R lip.

FRC?
I'm a newb in the north..
Please help.
Thanks

Fixed Roof Coupe... predecessor to the C5 Z06

Cool, good to know.
Another off tangent question.
In the V8R standard (rearmount) kit when you cut and reform the trany tunnel do you loose any foot room, if so how much? or how noticeable is it. Does it require throttle pedal modifications and/or other pedal movement/modifications?
Thanks
Rick

You only cut out a gusset to the right and behind the gas pedal but not enough to affect travel so you don't lose any room (unless you go too far).

If done right, you get the firewall close to the pedal, but still leave enough for carpet + air gap so it doesnt get caught. Once done, I could not tell much difference when testing gas pedal operation..... while making vroom vroom noises :)

In regards to the speed question youtube has Miatas that will lift the front wheels in the quarter and as for top speeds I am having issues finding the article online now but Top Secret or one of the other big name Jap industry tuners has made one that reportedly breaks 200mph...
