New Hubs
7 Attachment(s)
Getting the new hubs ready for installation. This is really an easy job - with a press. I think without a press it would be a lot more hassle.
The hubs are from Flyin' Miata. These are used on the 25 Hour race car, and easily last the entire 25 hours. That's a sturdy hub! https://www.v8miata.net/attachment.p...ine=1386707523 https://www.v8miata.net/attachment.p...ine=1386707523 https://www.v8miata.net/attachment.p...ine=1386707523 https://www.v8miata.net/attachment.p...ine=1386707523 https://www.v8miata.net/attachment.p...ine=1386707523 https://www.v8miata.net/attachment.p...ine=1386707523 https://www.v8miata.net/attachment.p...ine=1386707523 Anybody needs some new stock Miata studs? http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/...ps43eef099.jpg |
Looks good, but of the thousands of axle & hub recalls & replacements that I have done over the past 30 years, I have never had to do all of that. Just knock them out & draw them in. Excess heat is not good for sealed bearings.

Need to? No probably not. I could have pressed them in as quickly and easily as I pressed them out. But, those couple of extra steps are worth doing, IMO. It creates a slightly stronger bond, and helps me sleep at night. :)
You're right about the heat though. You have to be carefull about applying heat to a part with bearings and seals. A little is good, a lot is bad. |
Great write up! Thanks!
