8.8 Axles from The Drive Shaft Shop?

I came across this site in a search and was wondering if any one on this site has this set of axles. Per the tech support they use the stock hubs no broaching needed. I would guess that Martins are different and possibly more robust? Any opinions on the two manufactures?Attachment 3948

"bolt on inner hubs" has me weary. 8.8's don't have bolt on axles like a stock miata axle, they are more like a FWD axle that actually goes inside the diff. I'd call and clarify with DS shop before you order anything.

Hey Steve,
Thanks for your reply. I did speak with the tech support person. I asked him twice about using the original hubs. He kept saying yes. He also told me they are the same axles Boss Frog sold which they no longer sell. You now have to order direct from the DS shop. I was unsure of his answer that's why I posted this thread to see if any one was using these axles. From the photos they seem smaller than Martins and the literature stated that they are not ford cv joints, which the tech person also stated? The photo I attached is of the 400 hp rated axles. Seemed to be a good price for fully assembled axles, but then again you get what you pay for. that's why you do your research. Thanks again for you feedback that's what I'm looking for. Take care. Steve

DSS has been around for a long time and as far I know, they have had a great reputation for axle and driveshaft upgrades in many car communities.

I have a set of the 900hp axles sitting in my garage. Unfortunately I can't report on them yet. I am mid-build and currently waiting for my control arms to show up.

There is a vendor on ebay that will take best offers for DSS axles. You may be able to save some money if you decide to go this route.

Wary? ;)

That's the way they are, now. The original Ford plunge joints are no longer available. So now you get these bolt together style of axles.

The upside is that it's very easy to change axle stubs between 28 and 31 spline. The down side is that they are very difficult to disassemble to change the boot.

Changing the boot is important for some builds. If you're using Afco shocks, they are bigger around than most others, and they will interfere with the supplied boot. I changed mine over to the Audi boot for a better fit. But I had to take it to a shop for them to do it for me. I wasn't about to use a BFH on my new axles. :)

I bought a set of the 600HP axles, and I used the 31 spline inner stubs. Worked great for my cobra diff application. I haven't had any real road time with them yet but they are very nices parts, I certainly wouldn't fear the bolt in stub portion.

The bolt on CV has been used for years on Porsche, VW, amongst other related applications, sand rails, buggies, real race cars, etc. It's sort of a modular approach, might have some possibilities as far as coming up with a less than $600 axle solution. Empi has a good selection of different length axle bars that surely includes just the right length for an 8.8/Miata. Just need to find the CV's. Google Porsche CV for some good info and pics of how they go together.

Guys, I simply said that because I had not seen 8.8 axles that were bolt together, not because I didn't trust them. And to verify they are the correct application before ordering them. My V8R axles are a normal style axle without a bolt together flange which is what sparked my suspicion.

Thanks for all of the feedback. Many options and combinations for these builds. I ordered a few parts from Martin today to start. I started the project last summer but had to push it off to the side to finish the addition on my house. It's nice to be part of a site like this to get so much information, and avoid possible issues with the build. This weekend I will find the time to introduce myself more in the intro section. But for now I want to thank you all for your feedback with my questions on finding axles.
