Default Where do you measure toe at?

Seems to me 1/16" at the rim will be more at the tire face and more yet a foot past the tire face. So how far out from the spindle is the toe spec measured at?

check out the pic on this page. Looks like the measurement would be closer to at the rim.

But, my thought it that number is just a reference point with each car and set up being a bit different. If I had the setup to do my own I'd likely start with the FM numbers then make one change at a time and make notes of differences in handling. ..but I tend to take a 100 hours to do a half hour job. ..which is why I bought the car already built...

Measured at the outside diameter of the tire.

Wow thank you Gator that is really good stuff. I had not thought about calibrating the toe bars before so I am for sure going to check that out. I never thought to notice how long their toe bars are either but they are a bit shorter than mine. All in all this points me in a whole new and much better informed direction so I'm going to have to hit the thanks button!

Default Toe measurement

Take this from an old road racer, get the car up on jacks and the rest the from suspension so that its exactly level (no camber),. The idea is to keep the tires in a level place so that you can rotate them, then hold a sharp scribe against the center of the tire and spin it. You might need some help here. The point is to scribe a small line around the center of the whole tire.
Do the same on the other side. Not either make a mark on an aluminum angle piece, or use a tape measure. Measure both the from and the rear , this will tell you from the rear reading how much toe in-toe out you have. Believe it or not, there are big money pro team that do the same with a special made piece that you could make too
