Subframe Shim Question

Hey all, finally took the plunge and got a miata shell! It's an NA not %100 sure of the year. Picked it up for dirt cheap and I have an explorer driveline just sitting around. So here's the catch, it's a V6 4.0 ohv engine (strike one I know) and I am trying to do this relatively quick and cheap (strikes twould and three).

So my question is does anyone have pictures or info on shimming the subframe? I need the engine to come down a bit more, doesn't seem like I could move it forward without serious mods to the subframe, and it doesn't appear that there is much I could take out of the oil pan. I have read that people have shimed their subframe as much as one inch for 5.0's, wondering if anyone here has ever shimmer their subframe that much?

Thanks!
Alex

The most I know of around here is 1/4". Not sure how you could do a full inch without it having the '60's gasser look. Unless you're planning on moving suspension mounting points, but that takes "relatively quick" out of the equation.

Hi,

You can drop the subframe up to 3/8 of an inch (10mm). Any more than that and you will run out of thread on the front subframe mounting bolts. I dropped mine by 3/8. Use as little shimming as needed. I did not want to do mine...but hood clearance said otherwise :)
