Front End Wierdness

This winter I rebuilt the front end. New upper and lower ball joints. Inner and outer tie rod ends. One new lower arm with new bushings. Everything else stayed the same. I used factory replacement parts. No special or racing parts.

I also removed the cradle to rebuild the motor. All the parts bolt to the cradle, and the cradle bolts to the Exocet chassis, just like in the Miata. Everything bolted up just like it was supposed to.

Last year I has the suspension set at -1.25* of camber. Now I can't get it to <2.5* camber. Can you spot anything I did wrong?

Please clarify, are you at -2.5 camber, and can't get to -1.5 camber? So you can't add more positive camber?

Second pic looks like your camber bolts are set to pull the control arm towards the (adding positive camber) vs. more negative camber.

That is correct. I can't get less than about -2.5* of camber on each side. I'd like to be about -1.0 to -1.5* of negative camber.

The adjustment cams are turned to make the lower arm as "short" as possible. Bringing in the lower ball joint as close to the centerline as possible. That decreases negative camber. If I turn them the other way, I get about -4.0* of camber.

Are you using OE Mazda lower ball joints? I’ve seen quite a difference in the overall length between aftermarket and OE joints.

All the parts are OE replacements, no racing parts. On one side, I even purchased the ball joint from the local Mazda dealer. But they measure out the same, side to side.

I recently became aware of a thread that discussed the V8R subframe weaknesses. https://forum.miata.net/vb/showpost....9&postcount=25

My thought is maybe your subframe is bent enough to throw the lower control arm off. Question is, when did you measure camber at -1.25, before a bunch of track days? Hit any curbs or have any offs? Are you measuring camber the same way? You might be able to measure the distance between the two boxed tubes where the CAs attach at the front where it probably doesn't move much, and then at the rear where there is more potential for movement. An then maybe you can slowly push them back out a hair and then weld some bracing, as I will be doing once my engine is back in.
