Afco Shock Assembly Problem

1 Attachment(s)
This project is getting to be a real pain. So many things just don't fit the way they should.

Today I tried to assemble my brand new Afco front shocks, and immediately ran into a problem. The spring collar does not fit over the bump stop retainer. The bottom of the shock is significantly larger than the body, so bringing it up from the bottom is impossible.

I briefly tried to disassemble the top of the shock, but didn't want to damage anything. I could cut down the bump stop retainer.

Any thoughts?

Or Email Keith or Jeremy. I've gotten weekend return emails from both in the past. Or hit Kieth up on FB.

Thanx, Mike. That's exactly the information I was looking for. I thought the top of the shocks might come apart. But I was kinda afraid to apply force until I knew what I was doing. I break things that way. :)

Well, that worked. Once. The first shock came apart pretty easily. Went back together just as easily, and then installation only took a couple of minutes.

The second one, not so much. I struggled with it for about 45 minutes. Chewed up the nut pretty bad. Even tried some vice grips on the nut. Must be welded together. Just couldn't get it apart. I even started to design some special tools that would get under that retainer and grip the nut.

Finally, I said, "Screw it." I trimmed the edge of the retainer with some tin snips. Took about 30 seconds. Problem solved. Assembled and installed the shock without issue after that.
