Baer Brake Kit for NB S2
 

Hi all,

This week I will be receiving my Baer brake kit for my Miata. It consists of a mustang rotor 305mm or 12inch, twin piston pbr Mustang style caliper with all the hardware and brake lines.

Now I need to use this kit because of the vehicle registration and certification laws in my draconian country. I know that other kits are lighter and therefore don't affect the unsprung weight anywhere near as much. But my hands are tied.

I have also added a Mazda 929 master cylinder and a wildwood proportioning valve. Rear brakes are the 276mm rotors with the standard caliper.

Just a quick update. I recently purchased a Mazda 929 master cylinder and fitted it to the car. My car has the 15/16 master and sport brakes. The 929 master is a 1 inch bore.

Immediately after fitting it I noticed a dramatic improvement in pedal travel and feel. It took far less pedal travel to get the car to stop. I really like the way it feels. Far superior to the stock master cylinder.

I can recommend this to anyone with the 15/16 master cylinder. It is a complete plug and play affair... even the electrical plug is the same ☺

My brakes get fitted on Tuesday next week, I will let everyone know how it goes.

I have finally finished the brake install of the Baer Brake Kit for my Miata. I can attest to the quality of the kit as everything was plug and play. In the process I changed all the ball joints and hubs with Moog replacements. I also did the control arm bushes with ilmotorsport bushes that are 40% stiffer but are still rubber. I find that rubber is a much better proposition than polyurethane bushes for long term maintenance free and squeak free life.

First impression on the drive is that the pedal height and feel is excellent with the upgraded master cylinder. The brakes are too new to do any real brake tests with as I am still bedding them in. I will report back after a few days. It has been suggested that the weight of this system is too high. I can attest to the fact that it feels a little heavier. The steering is a little heavier but in a good way as its too light in standard form. Also it does feel like the suspension is working a little harder over rough bumps.... this may also be the harder bushes and my totally worn springs and dampers adding their unwelcomed contribution.

I will be replacing these soon with a bilstein eibach combo. So I will have a more informed position in the near future.

I like the OEM look of this kit, its nice if you want the factory look.... as I do. This front caliper setup is very powerful and will bring a mustang cobra and corvette to stop in a hurry.... so I am keen to get some miles on the setup so I can test it in anger.

Wow that is one good looking brake kit! Not sure why this thread is not getting more attention that looks like a great solution. I put bigger plates in mine from a Corvette and the weight didn't bother me a bit. Yeah you can feel it just a little in very slightly heavier steering but the bumps are smoother and over all has a firmer feel that I like.

Thanks for the plug. And thanks for all of your posts I learnt a great deal from you and your brake adventures before I went down the road of this kit. It is a very very well made kit and uses a well known pbr mustang cobra/corvette c4 caliper and rotor setup (so replacement parts are easy to come by). The mounting plates and bolts were top notch too...very very thick mounting plate for the caliper, the hub rings were perfect too. I agree with you and like the heavier steering feel myself as well. I have been driving it for a couple of days now and the pedal is firming up nicely and it has great grip and feel. Another few more miles and I will be able to really see what they can do :)

I can't find any mention of this kit on Baer's website. Is this a Australia market kit?

Hi no it is not an Australian only kit. But they have sort of discontinued it. They will make you a kit but you need to pay up front and wait a few weeks. They don't stock it on the shelf.

I had those brakes on the '94 Mustang GT I used to have. They were some really good brakes. I can only imagine how they are on a Miata.
