What other sections do we need?

What are your thoughts?

We dont want to go overkill with sections, but we certainly need a swap general area and?

Braineack 10-20-2009 10:28 AM

probably need: something like drivetrain & transmissions, engine related, a BS section.

Those.

Electrical is usually a problem area with swaps.

UrbanSoot 10-20-2009 05:53 PM

here is a good list:

- General swap questions
--- V8 Roadster
--- Boss Frog
--- Monster Miata
- Engine & Performance
--- LSx
--- Ford 5.0
- Suspension & Drivetrain
- Wiring and Electrical
- Kill Stories
- Insert BS here

UrbanSoot 10-20-2009 05:54 PM

oh... and we also need WTB section

Joe Perez 10-20-2009 06:55 PM

I'd suggest a section for Registration / Smog and Insurance-related matters. Always interesting topics with the kit car folks, and probably something that a lot of would-be V8 swappers will have questions on.

good idea. im planning on getting my car smog legal when its done.

Joe Perez 10-20-2009 07:01 PM

These might want to be separate sections. One for Smog & Registration, the other for insurance.

UrbanSoot 10-20-2009 07:01 PM

i think it can go under "General Swap Info"

rick 10-20-2009 10:57 PM

I made some sections :)

Don't want to go crazy on areas that will sit empty or idle for too long and we can always expand down the road anyways.

That's probably a good idea as those topics always come up, yet get buried in the general section. A good list of state by state rules would be nice.

As an example:

MD for OBDII - must retain all OBDII functionality/parts. Swap motor must come from same type vehicle (no truck motor into car). Motor must be from same MY or newer. The bottom line in reality is they scan the port for codes, check the gas cap for proper size, and might use mirrors to check for cats.

There are issues for getting a state inspection that might come into play with my swap but I'll know more when I take it to get the initial inspection. When I do that, I'll scan it and post the scan.

From what I gather these crazy fucks need a seperate suspension & braking forum.

MRM331 11-17-2009 01:56 PM

I second setting up a seperate Ford and GM section. There are a lot of topics that are releveant only to one or the other. Suspention, smog, saftey, etc apply to both build formulas.

How about a Communities section where members from the same geographical area can post about upcoming meets and shows in the area.

Kids do visit these sites.

Tell them to bring beer.

I guess engine management would be under electrical and wiring. I know I don't have a clue about popular engine management with 5.0 and LSx engines. Outside of the drivetrain/trans/rear end section, that's all that comes to mind.

n/m, see the Drivetrain now.

Noob question and answer forum......listening to the same old questions is exactly what will run me off from this forum just like the last one.

I'm for Keeping it Simple. I hate digging through plies of convoluted threads in Archives to find something that Should be in an obvious General category.

Since this IS a V8 Miata site, it should reflect current, V8 Miata Reality I.E. Engines; Ford, GM, Other.

Electrical; engine management, wiring would all be under Electrical, comon sense.

Basic & Clean, will keep it a more enjoyable

- My two cents

mike90miata 02-22-2010 07:00 PM

How about a weight reduction section?

LS2 V8 Miata 02-23-2010 10:22 AM

You mean like Jenny Craig? Weight Watchers, where we all drink Veggie smoothies to make our cars go faster?

We already have that. It's the p90x thread. :D

weight reduction

I like the idea but some things should be obvious. For my build I have acquired various sized hole saws and, of course a sheet metal saw. I am cutting all bracing from hood and deck lid and drilling lightening holes in everything else(excluding any support structure). Trunk, rear panel, all bumper supports are being removed, front and back of doors are being drilled out, hood and trunk hinges being removed, fender wells are being drilled out, rearview mirror housings are being drilled, all window hardware as well as seat mounts. Sun visors being removed.....you get the idea. If it's not critical to structural support it's being removed or drilled. I'd like to keep weight down to about 2200lbs. but I realisticly don't think that will be possible without some really extreme measures like removal of window glass and mechanism, removal of seats and replace with 1 fiberglass bucket, removal of entire top, etc. YAHOO......LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!!

There should be a section for V8 swaps that do NOT include LSx's or 5.0's. I would REALLY like to put a standard SBC in my Miata and cant find any help anywhere yet I have seen it done, so I know its possible.

There is at least one build thread on miata.net detailing a SBC build.
