I am looking to coat the floor in my garage. I have done this at a previous house years ago with mixed results. I am well aware that the surface prep work makes all of the difference in the world. What have you guys used, & what were the results? My friend used the kit from U-Coat-It with good results.

I coated my garage floor with epoxy when we bought our house 10 years now and it's still in excellent shape. The house was built in 1961 so needless to say the garage floor had seen many a drip/spill of oil and other things over the years and needed some serious cleanup. My prep consisted of 2 rounds of muriatic acid washes with scrubbing followed by 2 rounds of TSP washes with scrubbing and then lots of rinsing with a power washer between and after. I used a 2 part epoxy that I found at Lowes which was a little cheaper than the Rustoleum version.

My only experience was with having a "pro" do it for me on a new construction home. Oil and fuel leaks stained it. ...exactly what I thought it was supposed to prevent. I wish it have performed as expected. It was gorgeous when first done. I'm back to bare cement and kitty liter for spills. Might just use a cement paint and reapply every couple of years as needed. Worked well at the armory....

The "pro" must have used a bad product. Sorry it did not turn out as expected.

product or prep. bad experience overall. Loved the look when new. Wife would laugh at me for just going and standing in the garage looking. It was my first with finished walls and the epoxy floors. felt like a milestone. LOL

Oh one thing I forgot to mention is that adding some play sand to the epoxy mix will go a long way towards preventing people from slipping/sliding/falling on the finished floor. An SE-R friend of mind with the same floor as me didn't use sand and I went full windmill the first time I was on it when wet.

I spent all last winter coating mine with fiberglass dust and it came out pretty good.

I used garage floor paint from rustoleum. Im a little hard on it so its starting to give up at 2 years

Can you use floor jacks & jack stands on that stuff? What about a welder or a set of torches? Can you bolt a 2-post lift to it?

Floor jacks and stands don't seem to cause it a problem however, I would not weld on it nor mount a lift system on it. Look, not trying to **** you off but just giving a suggestion. However, one could remove a square to mount a lift post and put some protective down if sparks are flying but it does not sound like something that would meet your needs...

No problem. My garage floors see a lot of abuse, especially when it involves working on my stump grinders.
