How about the wheels and tires?
It would be a good starting point for a V8 track build but the price is a bit high for a car with nothing that could be sold off. If you included the brakes/ wheels tires it may be a bit more appealing. -Jason |
I have seen this car, and it is very nice.

I put a lot of thought into the asking price. Here's what I would expect that it would cost to build this car, starting from a stock NB Miata in similar condition: $5000 - Stock NB Miata - $750 - Sell engine - $700 - Sell Torsen, axles, etc - $500 - Sell convertible top, misc interior $3050 +$1175 - Hard Dog Roll Cage + $900 - OEM Hardtop + $270 - Garage Vary Lip Spoiler + $100 - Steering wheel/ quick release hub + $250 - Mazda Competition Control Arm Bushings + $255 - Fender Flares + $100 - DEI Heat Barrier lining trans tunnel and above muffler + $110 - Chrome Fuel Lid + $60 - Hood Vents + $42 - Tow Hooks $6312 This doesn't include tax, shipping, or labor. And, I'm guessing the paint and body on a $5k Miata is nowhere near as nice as this one, so take that into consideration as well. So, in light of that, the asking price of $3800 seems more than fair, especially for a buyer that is eager to get on with the fun part of a V8 build and not wasting time collecting parts for 2-3 months. PM me if interested!

This thing needs a 5.3, T5, and a stock torsen with 3.63 gears in it, then hit the track. For under 10k, someone could have a sweet little NB track car that looks CLEAN.

Nick,
Looking at what you listed above the price does seem better. Hardtops can basically be viewed as $1K cash so you're actually asking $2800. If the intention was to build a track car it would be a pretty good deal, especially considering the cage and bushings. BTW, in the 3rd picture what are your wheel/tire/offset specs? I'm looking at going the flare route with mine and think that looks like about where I'd like it to be when done. Good luck with your sale, -Jason |
Price Drop: $3400 OBO
Also, I forgot to mention, the car has FM frame rails and all but the center section of the butterfly brace (could possibly get from FM or fab something up). So, that's another $400 right there. I'm sure there are other things I'm forgetting.

If I was looking for a track car, this would come live with me in Charleston in a heartbeat.

Alright, time to make this deal irresistible:
For $4900 total, I will also include a brand new in box V8 Roadsters LSX mount kit (includes the front tubular subframe with mount plates, the transmission cross member, frame rails, and all hardware). If someone was looking to do a budget friendly V8 build, they could add a 5.3L GM V8 ($750), a stock 3.9 Torsen ($750), a T56 or T5 with bell housing adapter ($1000), and suspension/wheels ($1000-2000) and have a very capable track car for < $10k. This is making so much sense I might just keep the car and do it myself. |
You should keep it. With the LS, you'll never drive anything else.
|
So exactly how streetable is this car at the moment? Anything that would prevent it being used for street use, other than being very self-conscious about the rear diffuser...?

I think the lack of engine may affect how streetable it is...
-Jason Enough race prep can quickly turn something into a non street-legal track queen. |
[QUOTE=Fabrik8;3478]Good response, but you've missed my point. Intentionally I hope. ;)
QUOTE] Sorry, it was just one of those "can't resist" moments. Honestly, from how it looks to me, the biggest issue you'd run into with driving it on the street would be the full cage. You realy would not want to bump your unhelmeted head into it. A bunch of padding could help solve the problem. -Jason |
Jason is right - the cage is the only thing that would make it a poor choice for a daily. For a buyer that is looking for a more versatile street/track setup, I'd be willing to remove the cage and sell it at a lower cost. I have a double diagonal rollbar that could be installed in its place.

I'm not sure - he contacted me via phone, but it sounds like he saw the ad in multiple places. I'll let him know that he should post his build progress here since there are members that are interested in keeping up, including me!
