Exocet LS1 Prep

Prior to getting the engine installed, the engine needed to be prepped a bit. It's a used LS1/T56 from a 2001 Camaro, with 46K miles on it. Still in good shape, low miles, but I can't just drop a stock engine in. :)

The engine came complete, from pan to intake, water pump to trans. Including the wiring harness and computer. I plan to use a mostly stock EFI system, more on that later

I took the heads and oil pan off for closer inspection. But didn't take the pistons out. Removing the pistons from and LS engine creates more work and expense than it's worth.

This is a dedicated road course engine, but nothing fancy for now. I added a GM ASA cam, and some PAC beehive springs to some worked over stock GM heads. The heads are shaved for more compression. I also added a new timing chain and gears, a chain stabilizer, and a new oil pump.

I swapped the valley cover and ventilation for LS6 parts.

I clayed every piston. You can get away with only doing a couple. But it helps me to sleep at night if I do them all. Well within specs, not even close.

The oil pan is from V8R. I originally wanted the aluminum part. Mostly because it would keep the oil filter in the stock location. The the folks at V8R recommended the steel pan. It's cheaper, but it has better baffling for road racing.

The intake is a stock LS6 part. I cleaned up the runners a little here and ther with a sanding roll. but otherwise left it alone.

As you can see, I drilled some of the bolts for safety wire.

Pretty much ready. Almost.

I fiddled around with a couple of stock exhaust manifolds. Finally went with FM headers. Need to be modded a little for the steering column. But otherwise seemed to fit OK.

External engine components are pretty much stock. Since I'm using E85, I installed bigger injectors on the stock rails.

Great shots of the oil pan!
