As an alternative to that expensive Audi part.. here's the aftermarket solution. Im 99% sure this is right. But at $10 it can't hurt.

I think that's the one I bought, but couldn't use. It would probably fit without the Afco shocks, though.

No it's the 2 ribbed one, not the multiple ribbed one like you posted. Also, I feel the ziptie in the middle of the boot will accelerate wear due to the large square part that locks the tie rubbing on the boot every revolution. But If it works for you then go for it.

I'v been racing an IRS Cobra for about 10 years. The cable tie really does work. I was replacing boots pretty often. Once I started using less grease and the cable tie, they last for years. I think the boot just needs that extra support at high speeds, keeping it from ballooning. Next time I go to the track, maybe I'll put a camera down there just to see what's happening. |
Part number is 3b0598203 Or 4b0598203
Honestly not sure of the difference between the part numbers but they appear to have the same applications. -upon some research it looks like the difference may just be the stuff that comes with the boot kit (bolt, clamps, etc) in which case it looks like the 4b0598203 would be better as it comes with clamps . Also, yes that would be very interesting to see how the axle boot reacts at high speeds. Possibly a before and after. Ziptie/no ziptie |
Thanx, Steve. I updated the web page with that info. I might just have to buy one and see what comes in.
