About $15,000-$18,000 if (IF!!!!!) all parts are damage free and present to swap over.

Add another $6,500-$8,500 for bodywork and paint at a minimum, another $6,000-$8,000 for items missing, need rebuilding, needing updating. Plus labor, plus the time to title (forget about the salvage title, it is worthless). Contemporary was tied for #1 (with ERA) in the world of Cobra replicas back in the 80's and early 90's...However, since they were a high end kit at one time, most were built with FE power (428cj and 427 Sideoilers), the 351C included is an outdated boat anchor, as such, a similar equipped Contemporary, turn key was just sold for $25,000. Big Block Contemporary Cobras generally sell in the $37,000-$45,000 range, and those would be with true knock off wheels, not bolt on wheels.

PS: Out of the 25 Cobra replicas I've personally owned, two of them were Contemporary Cobras, both were factory built turn key cars that cost over 80K to build when new, both sold for $40,500 and $44,800 respectively.

That is super helpful Bill. I had no idea you had so many Cobras that is amazing! Cheaper than a mistress right?

I guess the guy had it listed for a long time trying to get 17K out of it and no one would bite. The photos really do look better than the car does. He is desperate for offers on it and said don't be afraid to insult him so I was thinking maybe 8500ish and see what happens.

Yes, I've had a few, mostly Factory Five's, but Contemporary, Unique, Superformance, and ERA's as well. It's an addiction just like the (6 and counting) V8 Miatas, and the 150+ Mustangs, not to mention countless MG's, TR6's, etc. The 80's and 90's were a blur of cars going in and out of my garage. Not so much in the last 10 years.........The hunt is half the fun for me :D


Nick Acton (Acton custom parts in NH) makes the replacement, bolt in 42 gallon fuel cells for the Contemporary Cobras. Clubcobra.com will be a great resource if you decide to purchase this future headache (I've contacted him for more information, but fear SWMBO might object to another project sitting in the garage right now :gay: ).......

This was never really in my reach but my best friend offered him 10K for it. The guy said he was hoping to get $15K out of it and is going to think about it. 15 seems a bit steep to me since you can get most of what is there brand new $13000 in an FFR kit.

Anyway I really appreciate the input on this guys and will let you know how it shakes out.

150 mustangs? Well I suppose it's cheaper than a mistress... ;)

Don't get wrapped up in what a base kit from FFR is, every kit is different, and you get what you pay for. If you want to build from scratch, a new FFR kit with at least a 3 link and most options will run you 19K, then you need motor, transmission, and all of the misc parts to do it. By the time you are done upgrading with a heater, wipers, tonneau cover, then bodywork and paint and you are in to a 30-38K build that is worth 25-32K when you are done.

For 25K I know of a nice FFR for sale up in your neck of the woods (ok, closer to you than me in Cary, IL).....

I think that I would let that one stay where it is. Cobra parts are expensive. Obtaining parts from an out of business company will be even more difficult. That car has a lot of incorrect stuff going on that the Cobra purists would frown upon. You could buy a nice finished car for the amount it will cost to make that one right.
