New guy

Hello my name is Ethan. I am an ex Miata owner and am dying to get back in the club, this time with a V8 twist. A friend's dad is considering selling me his roller Miata and I am trying to suck up as much knowledge as possible. I am thinking a 302 for the motor because of price/ availability and that gorgeous sound. Plus my friend has some gt40 heads and cam for me. Is there anything I should know or do before starting the project with this motor? Are there any companies other than monster that sell the 5.0 liter kit? I noticed most people have migrated towards the LS motors. Is it that much better for the significant price difference? How much lighter is it? How much more power does it make? I don't know the specifics but just wasn't certain either would make a huge difference in such a small car, especially enough to justify the price difference. Hopefully your wealth of knowledge can benefit me and I in return can supply you with some good threads and a build up... Are there any Monsters in Columbus Ohio? I would love to see one and get a ride along...

Welcome in!

If you have to have an LS1 based engine, go with the LS1 based engine. If you want a kit with history, go with Martins 5.0 kit.

Either way you go, it will be a blast and both power plants only limitations would be your pocket book.
