5.0 Miata 06-12-2014 12:33 PM

New to the forum...

Hello All;

I am a new member to the forum. Just sold my FFR Roadster (347 ci - 450hp, T5 tranny, 8.8 rear). I was a rocket, but an attention getting rocket! So I picked up a '93 Miata and plan on doing a 5.0 conversion. This should have roughly the same performance as the Cobra but, not as flashy, and has a radio (that you can hear) a convertible top (that keeps you dry), a heater (that keeps you warm).

I am located in the Lower Mainland in BC. Does anyone in the area know of a good engine builder around here? I plan on driving the piss out of it (its just like a little go-kart) this summer and then in the fall start the conversion.

Anyways, I hope to be picking some brains on this here forum. Thanks in advance for the advice.

Denis.

Denis.

I don't think anyone is making the conversion kits for a Windsor engine. Everything I'v seen is for an LS engine.

The LS not cheaper to build than than a Windsor. But, a stock LS1 will get you more displacement and more power than a stock 5.0. And LS1's are often attached to a T56 6 speed, instead of the T5 5 speed. With an aluminum block, they're a bit lighter, too.

Should have kept the FFR, too. ;)

Link to Monster Miata:

Martin has been the go-to guy for Ford conversion kits for years.

I believe he was associated with the original Monster Motorsports, now defunct.

He used to have a distributor or some connection in Canada.
