LS Exocet in the Works

Currently have a fun Exocet with a 1.8 turbo miata motor in it. It is a blast, but I still miss my old C6 Z06 and the angry sounds it made.

Still looking hard at a LGX swap, but I don't think I'll be happy until there is an LS in the car. Been reading a bit on here already and seriously considering having a shop do the swap for me. The amount of work is a bit daunting. Good to see it is possible though.

What GM LS install kit seems to work best with the Exocet?

Not a lot of choices. Look at V8 roadsters for an Exocet specific swap kit.

There is some fabrication involved, but not that much. If you can do basic brackets and and stuff, you can do it yourself. Cruise through this website for specifics. Pay particular attention to the cooling system section. Racing the Exocet

Thanks and a huge thank you for putting all the info online that you did! I'm going to pepper you with questions if that is okay.

What would you consider the biggest challenges in getting the LS to work in the Exocet?

How reliable has your setup been?

What would you have done differently?

Thanks again!!!

Ask Away! :)

There were a lot of small challenges, but nothing huge. Making the brackets and fitting the cooling system was the biggest puzzle. If the nose was 3-4" longer it would have been a lot easier. But there's not a lot of room up there, and it's kind of like a jigsaw puzzle.

There is some slight trimming of the trans tunnel needed on the right side.

If you're using power steering, you'll have to be imaginative about running the lines. The stock steel lines on the rack interfere with the oil pan.

The rest was pretty straight forward, and not overly complicated.

I've been racing it for two seasons. Except for the fenders, it has been absolutely reliable, not troubles at all. The fenders have been a real trial though. Poorly designed and weak brackets; they need a lot of work.

What would I have done differently? As far as the LS install, nothing, really. So far, it has worked really well and has been reliable. The engine makes a little over 400hp to the rear wheels, and the chassis can use every bit of it. The car is very fast, and getting faster. Next year I might make some changes for more power.

I just did some major changes to the suspension. I plan to add a new page to web site soon, probably in the next week or so.
