Heya!
Hi all-
This is obviously my first post. A v8 in a lightweight miata is a hotrodders' dream! I am interested in learning about building a v8 miata for drag racing purposes (I know a lot of you road race)- My main concerns are fitting enough rubber under such a small car, retrofitting a solid axle ford 8.8 rear (I know the explorer/cobra rear swap is more common but the bushings necessary to make it hook/stop hopping from maximum motorsports are big bucks- at least in a mustang), and cage/roll bar options... I know the longer wheelbase rx7 is probably a better candidate and possibly more worked out but those are pretty common these days. I also understand that the miata was built for road racing/autox but I already have a corvette z06 for that. Looking to read about your awesome machines and hopefully meet some cool people. Thanks! I think that you are causing much trouble for youself by trying to put a solid axle under yours. I was going to do a 4-link. To my knowledge there was another guy that was going to do it as well. I don't recall him finishing his either. One thing to look at is Landon's (MX5.7) car. He's using the independent suspension geometry of the miata with a Ford 7.5 diff and running 10s in Iowa. That's pretty quick in my book. What are your ET goals?

I have 235/60's stuffed under the car. It'll fit 275/50's without an issue also.... But the rear fender is NOT STOCK!

Is Landon on here? in that video he says he runs street tires with a t56- it is hard to tell but it doesn't look like it is spinning that much- he must be an amazing driver- is that an "RPM" built t56? I think the limit otherwise is 450 to the tire... .... I would like to run low 10s 10.00 at fastest as I dont want to put a cage in it. I am thinking about 600 hp to the wheels would do it and for that I plan either a ford or chevy 302 (3" stroke 4" bore) with a moderate turbocharger. Depending on the space restrictions it may be a rear mount setup. 275 50s may work in a drag radial- what sort of fender modifications did you do chmpn? - |

The pinch welds have been moved up 2-3 inches on the top and an inch off the front of the fender.
