Another budget LS
Hello from Virginia!
I haven't been on a forum actively since WRXFanatics, and that's been dead for a long time. So I'm making the leap from lurker to contributor. I'm a part time automotive enthusiast. Due to kids, juggling schedules, and intermittent car funds I'm about 3 years into my LS swap. My project started out as a "junkyard turbo" project - the goal being to spend as little as possible for a streetable turbo Miata. I bought a '90 Miata with hardtop for $750. It had low mileage and was pretty clean save for the tree that had fallen across the hood. I thought "I can fix that!" and stripped the car. Long story short - Fixing the front unibody rails and firewall was more difficult that i had hoped. So i bought my second '90 Miata for $1,000. Somewhere between those two purchases I found an LM4 (aluminium block LM7 truck motor) complete with wiring harness and ECU for $750. At that point there was no turning back - and I decided I was building a junkyard LS swap Miata -and I would fabricated and work out as much as I could on my own. I'm about a year into that decision. I'll start a build thread to track my progress for you all. I want to be clear - when I say "budget" I mean "budget." No V8R, FM, BF parts on this car. I am fortunate to have access to welders and sheet metal fabrication. I've been using them right along. Anywho - glad to be a part of this community. Hoping I can contribute here and there - and maybe inspire some others to break out of their comfort zones and go big - even on a budget. -James |
