Using a BPE8 fuel pump assembly in a 90 1.6 tank

The PO replaced the fuel pump assembly in my 90 (1.6 tank) with a 1.8 tank fuel pump assembly (BPE8). I already have the new fuel pump so I'm trying to make it work. The way that the pump attaches to the output tube is different for the two styles of plates, so simply buying the correct plate would be an added expense. I basically need to shorten my BPE8 strut to allow the assembly to fit in my 1.6 tank. The question is how much? Does anyone know how much shorter the assembly for the 1.6 tank is compared to the 1.8? What would be the best way to shorten it? Cut a section out of the strut and reattach it either by welding or making a plate to connect the two pieces? I'm looking for suggestions. It almost fits, it's about 1/8 inch too tall. I think the PO just drew it down with the screws. What say you? -Brad

Hey there Brad,
Sorry I didn’t return your call. I’ve been under the weather for the past litttle bit and unable to chat.
I know we discussed different pumps when you were shopping. I bought the stock replacement Deutchwerks unit from FM but never did get around to installing it yet, so I’m not sure I’ll be much assistance to you. It’ll probably be another month or so before I get a chance to get back to things, but if you’re still stuck I’ll send you pics with measurements if that’s any help to you.
Good luck in the meantime.
Cheers. Brad
