I got my ZO6 Snorkel today.. then had a thought... What are those of you running these, do about the MAF sensor? As best I can tell, the Z06 uses a small 4 pin MAF that goes into the snorkel itself, where the MAF for an 04 GTO is a 3 pin connector.

I'm not sure what most people do to interact with a GM ECU (since I'm using Megasquirt), but I am using this Z06 MAF so I know a bit about it. The Z06 is a 5-pin card style MAF. 3 wires for MAF (power, signal, ground) and 2 wires for the integrated IAT (signal, ground). There are breakout adapters that convert this 5 pin to the 3 pin and 2 pin connectors that a standard LS1 wiring harness would have, then I believe the MAF transfer function would just need adjusted in HPTuners.

Or you can just get the pigtail and hardwire it in.

I believe most people just aquire the card style MAF that goes with it. Although it is possible to get the car tuned on speed density and not using a MAF. Depends on what you want to use the car for I suppose.

The last week or so, I have mostly just been spending money. I got a sweet deal on a BF subframe, Ford 8.8 Diff and axles. so those are headed my way. One axle is broken, but DSS has given me an RMA to send it to them for a rebuild. Once I get that back, the car will make it's way to my buddy's house, to have the Transmission and Diff mounts made. I still have to order Frame Rails and some other bits.
I also figured out what cam is in my LS1. It is the Comp Cams XFI™ XE-R, XER281HR.

LOTS of parts came in over the last couple of days. I got a Boss Frog front subframe, Ford 8" Diff with 3.55 gears, Axles.. Well one of them, the other is coming soon. I got the broken one yesterday, which is going to DSS today to be rebuilt. My rear cover with main seal installed in it, came in.. but the seal had a slice in it, so it goes back today for exchange. Sound and thermal barrier mat came in. I just bought a set of BF Frame Rails, they should be here soon. And hopefully I have a radiator coming soon.
So this weekend, I plan to yank the factory front subframe and start moving the suspension over to the BF one. I also plan to start work on my new fuel system.

I would recommend leaving front suspension off the subframe for as long as you can, the added room to work on exhaust and wiring from inside the front wheel wells will save you a lot of frustration. Theres really no reason to put that stuff on until you are ready to put the car on the ground.
Let the fun begin!

Yeah, I didn't have to remove front or rear suspension (control arms, shocks, brake, etc.) stuff for my build. Might get in the way as you raise/lower front or rear subframes, but some strategically placed bungee cords will help. Saves floor space for parts and b/c I just didn't have to.

Very valid point. However, long before I do exhaust, they car will have to be partially assembled and transported to a friends house, so he can fab up the Transmission and diff mounts. Which is mostly why I plan to assemble the suspension on the subframe.

Just a small financial update. I did the scary task of sitting down with the calculator yesterday, to see where I was on this swap, money wise. So far, I have bought most of the big stuff. I still need to buy my headers, which is this weekend, My Clutch master cylinder, pay the machine shop to build baffles into my oil pan, pay my buddy to fabricate a trans and diff mount for me, the Tach converter, and my exhaust. Also I have to pay DSS to rebuild one axle.
With that said, when you subtract the money I have gotten for all the parts I sold, my grand total so far is just a hair over $4k. Not too shabby And I still have about $2k worth of parts to sell. The misses would be pleased I think.
I hope to have the car to my buddy's house on March the 4th for Fab work. If all goes well, I plan to have this car on the road in time for Miatas at the Gap.

Progress is slow, but it is still progress. I am mostly waiting on parts right now. The car is headed off to my buddies house as soon as I get my oil pan and axle back.
I picked up a ford 8.8 diff with a 3.55 gear set. I have sent it off to a friend to be gone over. The backlash was off a bit on it, so he is correcting that. However, neither of us know what these cables sticking out of the side of it are for.
I also started putting in my Heat and Sound dampener. But I ran out. So I have two more rolls coming tomorrow.
I have a Radiator and a completed fuel system coming. I got a good deal on the fuel system, so I am sending the stuff I ordered back.
And just today I got my Clutch hydraulics from V8Roadsters.
I have decided, that since I am trying to have everything done within the next 3 months, I will not be doing the wiring diet just yet. Instead, I am going to get it all running first. Then this next winter, when it goes down for seasonal maintenance, I will pull the dash back out and do the wire tuck and delete.
I pulled the GTO oil pan off and was pleasantly surprised are the bottom end. It looks brand new. No wear to be spoken of and no nasty surprises, other than the fact it was a bit over due for an oil change.
My F Body oil pan is at the machine shop, having baffles made for it.

Did you do the tunnel widening yet? Maybe you have a different plan... otherwise the sound mat might need to be removed in those areas.
What cables on the diff? The only thing attached to mine was the breather. Maybe they had some sort of manual lockup system attached? did it come out of an off road vehicle?

FYI the Ford gears do not like to have their backlash altered after the already have a pattern worn in them. For some reason the 3.55 gear set seems to be the worst. Don't be surprised if it sounds like the police are chasing you when you get it adjusted.

My buddy and his Fiance are both Ford certified mechanics. The Diff, I do not know what it came out of originally, but I got it from another V8 Miata. The backlash was way off on it. Worst case scenario, I have a brand new 3.73 gear set that I can get. But I want to see how the 3.55 does first.
We were thinking it was probably some type of manual lock up setup, but not sure. Neither one of them have ever seen it before.
I am doing a Boss Frog install, so the only tunnel widening I have to do is a couple dents with a hammer, to make sure the top bolts don't tap the tunnel under acceleration.

I got the rest of my Heat/sound mat in, so I finished the floor pan.
Also, today I spent 3 hours int eh pouring rain, under a Lincoln Mark 8 at the junkyard, so I could get this Diff cover for $40.
And tonight, one of my Miata club's members was kind enough to bring me these GTO FRCs from Nashville!
I will be sanding the GTO off of them. I haven't decided yet what I will put there in it's place. Likely either MX-5, MX-8, Roadster, RYU (my car's name) or an Autobot Symbol, as my car is an autobot. I will also be painting them Black, Silver and Red, similar to this..
DSS is currently fixing my broken axle, and I am still waiting on the other one to get shipped to me. The shims just came in for my Diff, so I should have that back to me this coming week.

Today was clean up and paint day.
I installed my Clutch line and remote bleeder hose onto the throw out bearing.
Then I took to cleaning up my Diff cover. I spent an hour with with mineral spirits, water hose and a wire wheel, Then I painted it Titanium Silver from Rustoleum.
It looks better than new!
I liked the color so much, I decided to paint my bell housing and transmission too.
I also installed the f body shifter assembly and short shifter. But soon realized something wasn't right. Turns out I need the F body offset lever, as the GTO lever is too long.
So I will get one ordered. Checking my sources for a used one first.

I got my offset lever in and decided I hate the stock f-body shifter. So I have ordered a Pro 5.0 Power Tower and short stick. I got a good deal on a Flyin Miata Radiator that had a leak at the Epoxy seam. I am taking it today to be rebuilt at one of our local custom Radiator shops.
I got my axle back from DSS, just waiting on the other one to get here. Also, the plan is to take everything to my buddies house this weekend, to start fabbing up the transmission and diff mounts. Plus we are going to drop the tank so I can run the fuel system and install the frame rail reinforcements. Then, once that is all done, it will come back to my house to finish up the wiring and assembly.

You should really like the Pro 5.0 shifter. It's a good feeling, solid piece, and I have had no regrets.
Did you purchase the shorter Tremec adapter for the tranny linkage to go from GTO to F body? Change it out with removing and replacing the rolled pin...

I did, that was the offset lever I was talking about. It is all swapped and have the Pro 5.0 installed now. Wow!! that is a nice shifter!!! Hopefully the car is headed to my buddies house this weekend for the final fab work and major assembly. I am still waiting on my headers and one axle, but we are going to get started anyway.

Ok, we have some progress! And soon there will be a LOT more progress.
I got the Pro 5.0 shifter and installed it. I love it! Everyone that has come by has checked it out and they love it too. The shifts are so short and crisp, it feels like a brand new Miata shifter, but firmer.
I also got the differential together and painted.
My fuel rail covers have been sent to a buddy for a project he is working on. In exchange, he is going to paint them for me and send them back.
I bought a set of sport brakes and got them cleaned up and ready to install. I also got new braided lines for them. I am still trying to decide what pads and rotors I am buying. I don't want heavy dust, loud, wheel destroying pads. But I want them to stop me well. I may go with EBC Green Stuffs.
My wife tried her hand at carpentry not long ago. We feed the birds out back and she wanted to feed them out front as well... So she screwed a board into a tree trunk. Well, the birds did not like it. They are accustomed to finer feeding stations. However, it made the perfect paint station for my calipers!
I also got the harness off the motor and the intake. I decided to also clean up and paint the valve covers. A few coats of wrinkle paint later and they look better than new! I also got my belt routing figured out.
They came out so nice, it really is a shame to cover them back up. But, My mind is made up
And with all the cleaning up and painting.. I decided that the Intake needed some love. So I took it to Tennessee Metalizing and had it hydro dipped a red carbon fiber. I love how it looks!
And yesterday, my best friend came by and we loaded all of it up onto a trailer, to go to his house. He will be building my Transmission and Differential mounts. He will also help me assemble the drive line into the car. Then it will come back to my house for wiring and final assembly.
Bye Ryu, Bye bye!

There hasn't really been any movement in the last year. We have the motor in, but my buddy never finished my rear Subframe or built my Transmission mount. So I am currently waiting on a bonus check, so I can tow the car to another shop and get them to fab up the last few pieces I need, to assemble the car.
