Got the intake mounted up this week

I thought I had the radiator mounted up as well in the factory position but it turns out this intake sits about 1/2" into the top of it. At least now I'll have a chance to put it wherever I want, as its sitting pretty close to the water pump neck as well.

 

You are making some great progress. It will not take long to get from where you are to a running car. Just keep hitting it hard!

 

Been pluggin away at some little things as Im waiting for my headers to come back from powdercoating. After having to reseal the diff cover, I got the subframe bolted back in.
Installed the AC Delco truck starter.
Got the GM controller kit, ECU and wiring harness mocked up. This kit is nice and has spare slots to add relays/fuses for the rest of the cars wiring. I think Ive decided to keep all the electronics inside the cabin where the hvac system lived as Im trying to go for a clean engine bay.
Depowered the steering rack and installed new outer tie rods and R-package tie rod ends. The clearance between the rack housing and V8R oil pan is about 3/16". I hope the motor mounts are stiff!
Brake swap is complete. After swapping in the bigger brake master cylinder and Wilwood proportioning valve, the only thing I needed to order was a 3-way tee since Im not using ABS. Since no hardware stores sell metric tees, I found a cheap one on Ebay with free shipping from Latvia. Lol
My suspension showed up last week. Found very low mileage Gen 2 Xidas with billet pillow mounts. These things look all business. Im excited to see how they feel, although they came with 800/500 spring rates so I might buy a little softer set for the street. We'll see.

15x9 and the tungsten finish is gorgeous. I just have to decide on tires. Im leaning toward the RS3, which seems to be the go to tire in 225.

 

I have a couple hundred miles on mine. So far I'm happy with them. There was def more grip with the RA1's, but that was expected. I'm on 15X8 rims.

 

Thanks for the review, it seems most people are happy with them. I thought I read somewhere that some were experiencing tire hop but after searching I cant seem to find any specific cases.

Swapped out the cracked NB dash to a mint NA6 one. I spent about 3 hours pulling it apart, cleaning and restoring the upper dash. Turned out great, I never knew brake fluid cleans and rejuvenates plastic so well. I washed it with soap and water first and dried. Followed by a good rubbing of brake fluid over the entire dash and wiped off any excess. Then a few coats of Meguiars interior shine.

Also got the InfinitFab seat installed. The bracket puts the seat off center so its still needs a little love.

Got these back from Nitroplate. They did great work on them. I hope they hold up over time.

Lots of wheel hop with RS3's I couldn't dial out. R1r's worked better for me. I'm sure a lot depends on suspension set up and spring rates. Hopefully you will have better luck. Wish I saw your post earlier, ton's of three way brake lines tee's at the shop. Steel, aluminum or Ti!

 

I had my long tubes done by them almost 2 years ago. The 90* turn down's right after the head flange has lost some of it's luster but it's still holding up fine.

 

Thanks for the input, you getting decent mileage out of the R1R?

I run the R1R on my street rims (16 x 6.5) so they don't get any track or auto cross. So far I have about 7500 on them and maybe a 1/3 life left. So not bad. I switched to NT01 on my track rims. They are shot after 2 track days, 2 auto x and about 3K street miles. But holy stickiness....I'm actually going to try the R1R on my track rims as I really like the way they feel.
BTW, NT01's are very noisy depending on the road surface but I guess that is to be expected with 80 treadwear.

 

Thats good to know, thanks. I was actually one of the last of the small orders that Nitroplate was taking. They said theyre switching over to mass production and no longer accepting individual race parts.

 

I know this adds nothing to the thread but I just have to say that is the coolest avatar ever Dave!!

 

I think you sold me on these. Its too bad Discount Tire next to my house cant get them, I suppose I'll order from Tire Rack and pay someone to mount them.

Id like to find a decent race shop near me (Orlando) that can do this as well as align/corner balance once I get the car rolling.

The Discount Tire I use ordered my tires from Tire Rack and installed them. had them next day too. They charged me the online price plus the online shipping shown on the Tire Rack site. But I was able to get all the regular Discount Tire perks.

 

Well after a couple months of working out of town, Ive finally been able to get back at it. I received all my wiring and circuitry and began the install this week. Decided to toss the factory chassis harness and went with an American Autowire kit. The motor has the standalone GMPP controller kit so Im really just left with getting the chassis wired. The AA kit is very complete and well packaged, making wiring my first car rather simple and painless thus far.

For instrumentation, I went with an Aim digital dash. Its fully programmable and reads all data via a four wire hookup into the GM ecu. I think the only gauge I'll be running seperately is fuel pressure, keeping a lot of wiring to a minimum.

Its good to be back making progress, Im hoping to get her cranked up in the next couple of weeks.
