Interested to know your intercooler and exhaust plans.

sportage4x4 01-03-2011 04:34 PM

For right now it looks like no intercooler. 7psi non-intercooled is pretty common in the budget turbo LSx world. Like i said earlier, i would have liked to use a single T70, but the thing is just too big, tubular front clip or not.

Exhaust will be two around the trans into a single. Most likely oval tubing under the diff. I'm using the Boss Frog 8.8 rear kit and there is just not enough room to go through the diff subframe with a turbo sized exhaust.

You are my hero!

Nothing fancy here. I mean realistically its a massive overkill. Do you really need to turbo an LS miata? no. So why? Because I can ;)

Its the not the model of effeciency either. Plain log manifold, journal bearing turbos, completely stock engine (except for a set of rod bolts, a good timing chain and some valve springs).

I have a 0411 ECM with a 2bar SD OS on it, but i think it would benefit me more to run a MS3/MS3X ecu setup on it, and really start playing around with a lot of CAN bus datalogging. I want to log pre and post turbine back pressure, pre and post turbine EGT, pre and post compressor temps, etc. with the MS3X and an IO-Extender card i should have enough channels available to litter the car with sensors.

Very cool! Please post updates when you can, I definitely want to see how this turns out! :)

I'm with Jason, that is intense! Can't wait to see the finished product

Road Cone 04-26-2011 06:31 PM

Me too!

What kind of a sissy needs to put twin turbos onto a V8.
How small must his penis be?

:D
J/k Matt.
Keep up the insane work.

Very nice, but if you put it out front you have alot more room

quick vid. its dual 2.5" downpipes to a single 3" exhaust just after the transmission. two 2.5" spun cats and no muffler or resonator of any kind. its actually not very loud at all. you can barely hear it run at idle.

Woop woop, have i missed some other thread where this has went further?

sportage4x4 02-13-2012 09:07 PM

Drove the car on the street for 2 months. No issues, well, other than tires and lots of broken hearts.

Car is apart again. Fabricating a tube front to make room for a big single turbo (thinking borg S475). Also pulling the 4.8 and dropping in either a forged piston 5.1 (99x83) or a stock LQ9. 10psi is the arbitrary boost limit I've set.

With the tiny T25's it spun through the first 3 gears with ease and walked on a C6 Z06.

Selling the previous kit?

Might I suggest water meth if you need to drop IATs.

sportage4x4 02-14-2012 08:23 AM

I wasn't considering selling the previous kit, but maybe i should. It would be manifolds and downpipes. you can physically fit as large as GT3071-WG turbos in there, which should be plenty of power.

I did have higher than I would have liked IATs. Mainly due to the fact that the turbos were simply too small. The new big single setup I'm working on will have an air to air intercooler, plus I'll barely be spinning the big Borg so temps shouldn't be that high to start with.

The previous setup was pushing 47# injectors to 80% duty at low 12:1 AFRs, so i'm going to conservatively say it was about 500 crank horsepower. Never got the chance to actually dyno it. It was STUPID fast, there was never really a need to dyno it :)

vroom4 02-14-2012 04:52 PM

You should just put the 25s back on and sell me the car. Then you can start fresh and all ya know :)

Kamgator 02-14-2012 09:02 PM

I REALLY have to come visit your shop next time I am in TO! Most impressive!!

That was my last setup. I was able to fit an intercooler just not very well. my new setup should be finished in a few weeks. its getting some paint and body work done. It now has the turbo sitting right next to the water pump.
