Started my LS swap, have engine questions.

I thought I had this LS swap thing well researched before starting but only 2 days in and I have a couple of engine questions. Never gave it much thought but all of the threads seem to have engines that are already cleaned up and ready to be installed. If somebody has a link to a thread that details what to do with all the engine exterior connections and hoses, please let me know which one it is.
The first picture is where I am pointing at a hole in the front of the intake. I believe it is for some sort of exhaust gas re-routing or intake air warmup since the tube that was in it connects to the exhaust manifold. What is this and can I just block it off with a plate? If not, what do I do? The second picture is the right side of the engine and I am pointing at something attached to the fuel rail. It appears to have some sort of vacuum hose that connects to the intake manifold. What is it and can I get rid of it? The third picture is the front of the engine just below the inlet opening and is some sort of hose that appears to be a vacuum line. Can I just cap it off or does it need to run to something? |
the small line may be the cooling system vent line. It goes to the radiator. What is the engine out of?

The third line has a PCV valve on the other end, which is what makes me think I can remove it. There is already a PCV valve hooked to the valve cover which vents to the intake at a different location. |
1. EGR can be plugged. Search for "LS1 EGR delete" for more info. I believe the stock ECU is fine with it being blocked off, but you'll see power benefits by getting a tune after this is blocked off.
2. Probably the EVAP purge solenoid. I don't know too much about these, but I got rid of it and just followed all the instructions out there for fuel stuff. I ran a line directly from the Corvette fuel regulator to the fuel rail. The venting and charcoal canister will be taken care of at the tank, rather than through a solenoid at the fuel rail. 3. If that line runs to the valley cover, there is a PCV breather box inside of the crank case. Look up pictures of an "LS6 valley cover" to confirm that this is the correct hose you're looking at. If so, keep it, this is one of the benefits to an LS6 over an LS1. Look up "LS6 PCV diagram" to see how to run vacuum lines for this system. However, I don't think the LS6 valley cover came on the Camaro until 2001, so that may not be it. If this line does not run to the valley cover, it probably runs to the coolant crossover. In that case, it would get plumbed to a bung on top of the radiator. All of these answers pertain to a vehicle that does not have inspections at all. |

I bought a Chiltons that covers a range of Camaro years but is very lacking for the specific information I am after. I just love the internet and the people that help out with all these resources. Any idea where the manual specific to the 2000 Miata is located? |
