Star Performance Products Engines

Just found this shop via an article in SuperChevy. They have ford windsor motors as well as sbc/bbc. The prices are very reasonable for a complete motor (intake, ignition, etc..).
If anyone purchases / drives one of these motors - please post the results.

Star Performance Prod.

Rip,
I just read this same article and started doing some research on Star Performance Products as I am in the market for a reasonably priced SBC 350/290-330HP.

They have great prices for fully assembled crates, and they look flashy, but they don't really list many manufacturers of the parts they use. And they do admit they don't exactly dyno test anything and ballpark their numbers such as HP an engine produces on some computer program.

The article in SuperChevy mentioned some bolt on accessory manufacturers but not much and those mentioned were brand/quality names, that is why they were noted. They didn't mention the final cost of the build in story though.

I have emailed Star asking some questions. I'll let you know what I hear back, but I have seen a few other forums talking about Star when I googled for reviews. Not a lot out there, and if they were that great I would expect to find more, or at least reviews on Star's site. Seems the feeling out there is, if it sounds to good to be true, probably is.

Interested to hear if anyone else has input too.

Star

Got a reply from Star Performance on my inquiry about their engines.

Regarding the 350/388HP
GM block 4bolt.
They use Pro Comp Aluminum heads, from my limited head research, Pro Comp is a lower end China manf. Not saying other quality heads might not come from China, but Pro Comp seems to be on the low end.

Star didn't specify the cams they put in.

Pro Comp heads have been known to be very faulty to the point where some have cracked while being torqued down. The parts they use are bottom of the scrap heap parts. You can pick up a GM crate LS1 for the same price and save yourself a lot of weight.
