Facility
On a scale of 1 to 10, how crazy is the idea of doing an LS(x) swap in a storage unit? I don't have a garage, and the awesome auto hobby shop that I use for small jobs doesn't rent bays long-term for big projects, and they have pretty limited hours for working, too.
I am open to other ideas if anybody has some. I don't want to start something I can't finish, but I also really want to do the swap this winter. |
First project: Build a man-cave/shop! Actually I don't see how this wouldn't work as long as it has electrical and enough space to work.
And if you do build a shop call it "Ralph's PMS Shelter, A week is a terrible thing to waste!" |
I would absolutely build a garage/shop, but I live in an apartment, so that won't work either.

I Considered it too
I considered doing the same thing but ran into difficulties. The storage facilities all had rules about storing cars. Car had to be running and had to be insured and they didn't cottin to the idea of using as a garage. I finally ran an add on Craigs list and searced on line and found a guy with a 4 car garage he was willing to rent space for $50 a month.lucky I guess. I bought 10x10 "storage unit" from Home Depot to use as a paint booth. It's Great!! Metal frame canvas fully enclosed. Used 8x4 styroform insulation panels for flooring. He let me set it up in his back yard. Good luck, Tony

Other friends I know online have pooled their money and moved their projects to a standalone garage they rent. Might be one possibility if you have some like-minded friends.
Irishvol's idea sounds great too. If I had space, I'd let a fellow gearhead rent it as long as he was straightforward with what he plans to do and how he expects it to take. |
