Anyway, that same friend recommended welding V-bands to my headers instead of using the 3 bolt flanges. He also suggested keeping my heat under control and using the thinnest filler possible to avoid warping. Doing that and using my jig of a spare V band welded to a piece of steel kept the warping down to only about .005"!
