Getting dirty in Houston

6 Attachment(s)
Finally getting the build going after buying the started project from a guy here locally in Houston, TX.

I purchased the project as - car, full monster miata kit, rear end, and engine (fully rebuilt).

It started out in the following condition:
- Body modifications done: K member, oil pan, firewall cut outs, shifter cut out
- Engine assembled and test fitted
- Rear end mounted and test fitted with axles
- Adjustable suspension installed
- Boss Frog body stiffners installed

I have:
- Purchased a new tranny and built up with bellhousing and shifter fork
- Swapped upper part of motor to a Cobra polished intake with larger injectors, MAF sensor, and throttle body
- Installed modified condensor assembly (thanks to McCully Racing for the great blog)
- Re routed fuel, brake, and AC lines and wrapped with heat shield tape
- Had wire harness modified by McCully Racing
- Hours of reading and research

I have attached some pics. The previous owner was into fiberglass work, so he did some exterior styling mods. We will see how the final product looks.

Here is the car

I will try to keep posting and loook forward to ideas and suggestions that will help me with my build.

I am in the Army stationed at Ellington Field and don't have a lot of time to work on the car, but I try to do what I can when I can. Wiring harness is next to go into the car.

Looks like it is coming together well! Is that the chinese cobra intake?

I don't think it's Chinese? I got it from a local speed shop off of one of their cars.
Finally got drive shaft made.

Reason I ask is that it looks like the chinese one that I had. Chinobra (chinese made reproduction) intakes are notorious for oil consumption problems. Ford Racing can send you a bigger baffle the ones that cover half of lower. The bigger baffle should help solve the problem. Part number is F6TZ-6L678-AA

Found a $15 Sunpro oil pressure gauge at Pepboys that fit perfect in vent.

I'm liking that gauge install! Thinking of doing a water temp one for the other vent?

Exhaust

The car does not run, but the exhaust is almost done! They did a really good job tucking it up very close. I'm going with a dual tip set up that should match the theme of the car. I will post more once it is complete.

Liking the build and the att'n to detail on the exhaust work. Good idea on offset tips to flow with the rear lines of that bumper. Your body kit - nose and rear end - are highly unique. There will be a lot of folks in your area who won't know what the hell just blew by them on the interstate when they hear that exhaust and see those Ferrari style tail lamps! Keep those pics coming.

I think I am late to reply but car looks in awesome shape. Hope you get good price.

MX52NR 03-08-2013 05:51 AM

Very Nice! I really like the exhaust work and the attention to detail on the tips. Thanks for the updates.

Gunpilot 03-08-2013 08:37 AM

Finally got the car running. It doesn't run great, but it runs.

I have a few KOEO codes. Most are EGR and purge canister related because
I don't have those hooked up. The big ones i'm trying to trouble shoot are:
22- BAP Sensor
51- ECT circuit open

The idle surges and im thinking it may be the BAP sensor fault. Should have time to work on it this weekend. I need to get a steady idle to calibrate tach.
