Doing it again for the 1st time. (V8 Mazda)- Sky and her 347 Ford

Hi my name is Sam. I have two 1993 Miatas. My Wife nicknamed them, Powder (the White one) and Sky (the blue one).
A little about me. I was a Senior in high school in 1993. My Dad and I ran a "Father and Son" Mechanic shop. I bought a 1966 Mustang that had jumped time for $500. After fixing the car, I traded that (running and driving) Mustang to my Brother-in-law. He had a 1968 Camaro with a new engine and trans, that had sat in pieces at a body shop for a year. In 93, a low rider truck was the thing to have. I had one a 1988 Mazda B2200, that used more oil than gas..... (You see where this is going) I put the 350 ( with a "RV" cam alm intake and Holley carb) and the TH350 trans (with a B&M shift kit) in the Mazda along with a 10 bolt rear end out of a 77 Trans Am (with 342 gears). The truck was Fast and Fun. People still ask me about that old "V8 Mazda".
I have wanted to build a V8 Miata for a while now. It is time. I have most of the parts, and I will pull out the engine and trans today.
I have some pics of "Sky" and the 347 mock up. but I don't know how to post them. what is the best way? Thanks

Going to be a sweet car. Good luck with the build, you do have a leg up on most builders.

11boy 03-09-2014 08:01 PM

Thanks! I will post more pics soon

Good luck with the build. You are younger then many of us so should have more stamina unless you work. I have a 302 and may go to 347 in the future but it is fun with the 302. Do keep folks up on your progress and there are many build threads and many folks who can help with whatever you need.

Thanks! I do work 6-10 hour nights most weeks. But the O/T helps pay for the miata parts. I will post more pics soon

Nice! You going to stitch welding chassis or put in frog arms?

11boy 03-13-2014 11:39 AM

Thanks! It will be Stitch welding for me. I have a Lincoln 255 that has nothing better to do. How much welding I do is the question. I have about 6 sets of headers laying around. Between channeling the chassis and reegineering headers I am going to make a set work.

MX-Brad 03-14-2014 01:33 PM

Wow. Hope mine cleans up that nice.
You just use a pressure washer, or some detergent too?

11boy 03-14-2014 03:31 PM

Just a water hose, purple power, and a soft bristle scrub brush.

tbone heller 03-15-2014 07:47 PM

When I first saw the "before" picture, I thought that you were doomed with a rust bucket. LOL.

11boy 03-15-2014 09:08 PM

Yea, thank goodness it was just dirt and a little oil. She is in good shape. We are lucky to live in Ga when it comes to rust.

you may have an aggressive street car.....if you have to hold down your trans-brake button to back out of your parking spot. I say, doesn't everybody. lol
