Where to wire up an electric water pump???
Looking for some opinions. Putting in a 331 stroker and I ended up going with an electric water pump. How/where would you wire it up? 20A fuse. Put in a separate relay or is there somewhere I could safely tie in? Fire away! Thanks!!

I would put it on a relay and fuse it. Are you going to be controlling it by temperature in any way? Toggle switch to gain power at the drag strip? Or just 100% on when the engine is running?

Yeah in general, unless you know exactly how much amperage each of your power circuits is drawing, and you know the fuse sizes and wire thickness to know how much room you have left, it's best to run a whole new circuit. Run a relay straight from the battery, with a fuse on it as well.

How did the electric water pump work out? I'm wondering if others have experimented with these on Miatas? From what I have read, we'd likely need 55GPM flow to keep up with 5+ liters of V8, particularly with any track time. The advantages appear to be improved flow at idle and cruise, or even with the engine off. Disadvantages appear to be cost and reduced flow at high RPM.
I'm considering it, as then I would just need to belt-drive the alternator and power steering pump. Pretty simple. Bryan |

Thanks much for sharing your experience. Much appreciated. The SN95 water pumps appear pretty expensive for some reason, so I am thinking of going this route. I'm just a bit concerned about it keeping up with the occasional track event, but it may well be that cooling down in the pits trumps lower flow at high rpm (I won't always be at high rpm on the track!).

One thing I did do was upgrade to an Optima yellow top since I knew there may be times I might need the extra juice. Good choice!!!

Did you do a "build thread" for your V8 Miata (not coming up in "search")? Just based on the thumbnail picture (Spectre twin intake?), I would be interested in the details of how you put yours together.
