Use of Miata fuel pump with Carbs
 

If any of you are using the Miata electric fuel pump,along with a carbed engine, how are you reducing the pressure . I have looked for a pressure of the low range regulators only allow 15 or so inlet psi, so another regulator must be placed in front of the regulator for the engines.....any of you find a good way to solve this?

I need to reduce the initial pressure from the Miata pump 50-65psi down to 4 psi, most regulators that I have found will not accept that high of initial pressure, so would have to tandem somehow another regulator

I used a carb on a Fox body once with the original EFI fuel system intact. The pump can "make" that kind of pressure but in an open loop it will not. I tee'ed off the pressure line near the carburetor and connected it to the return line. The back pressure of this alone regulated the pressure to around 6 PSI. So I had fuel flowing in a loop with a tee at the engine end so to speak that went to the carb. I did not use any regulator at all except for the built in return line that created the pressure I wanted at the carb. Maybe the down side is excessive fuel being run through the system and heating up. Worked fine though...

Like he said, the pump does not control the pressure. The regulator does. It doesn't matter what pump you put in front of it, the regulator will control the proper pressure.

Outlet pressure as measured at the Edelbrock (Carter knockoff) carb is 4 psig.

Great inputs all!! than you. I had thought that maybe a loss would occur because of a T, but did not know what the pressure drop was for the normal configuration. I have a regulator that will handle this now, it will accept up to 15 psi, and regulates down to 1.5....so Im in...sure don't want to savage my webers!!
