Is Tony LaBoy a member - DIY v8

Is this a member? I found a cardomain page that someone did a 5.0 Monster with no kit used.

Worth the hassle to save some $? How much would you really save over the kit?

That's Tony LaBoy. I'm not sure if he's on this board but a few of us here know him, and his car, pretty well.

Is it well put together?

Tony LaBoy 08-08-2010 03:31 PM

That would be me. Jason just introduced me to this forum. I'll introduce myself formally on the intro threads but first I thought I'd answer some of your questions.

It's the most well put together V8 miata ever! LOL!

Honestly I think its pretty well sorted out. I had a few years to think about some short comings of other peoples conversion. I experimented with a few things and tried a couple other ways of doing things. In the end the cost is probably what everyone else is paying to complete their conversions. I just avoided the big payouts for things like the kit, a motor, trans, rear, electricals, brakes or suspension. I worked on a rolling budget. It took longer to do then most but it's on the road now and I drive it everyday. I would like to repaint the body but that will have to wait for now. That will probably be the largest cost item when it happens.

I also Am not useing a kit, I think its totally worth the extra time if you have the know how. I myself am not quite that skilled im more of a bodywork/ paint guy but ive got a buddy helping me thats really good. theres plenny of pics out ther to get ideas from. When i was doing my research before i started my build i got lots of good ideas from Tonys cardomain and lots of other guys. ( Thank Yopu BTW) and if you get to a point where you need some help get on V8Miata or miata.net and ask, most will be happy to help... might even start an argument. Save that Money on the kit and use it someplace else on the car.

Hope this helps< my thoughts are random sometimes...

Few pics of the stuff we have made that will come in the kit if you buy it.

what a the dimensions of the mounting pads on the k member, and the size of tubing

I also build it without a kit, the main point is that i wnat to build a monster miata with a 6000$ budget. I don't want to know how much it's cost to ship a k-member from canada.

The next point is that i don't want to cut the oil pan and i don't like the MM headers that pass in the steering colunm. I take a lot of info on the guy that put V8 in MG.

For sure you save a lot of time with a kit, but it's my hobby.
