SN95 A/C questions.
 

Ive got a 94 Mustang for my donor vehicle, and I plan on keeping the A/C as I live in central Louisiana. It was 85* on christmas.

Anyways, I know the only part from the Mustang Ill be using is the compressor, and the A/C blows cold air right now, so it works. I plan using the hoses from Mccully Racing and the parts on whatever Miata I end up with.

Since Im using an SN95, the CCRM will be controlling the A/C, correct? How hard is it to wire up?

Ive also seen that the compressor wont fit where its at. Is it possible to relocate the compressor? Possibly where the smog pump is, since Ill be tearing that out.
I know some guys that run the SN95 A/C have cut a portion of the engine bay out for clearance. Ill do that if I have to, but Im no welder, so if I can relocate it instead of doing cutting and welding, Ill do that.

Dos anyone hav any good pics of where the Miata needs to be modified for clearance?

Here is a pic of what I did for the compressor. the extra room needs to go back toward the firewall as far as possible and all the way to the front where the radiator mount bracket stuff is.

Use references like the headlight asm mounting stud, holes in frame, etc. to lay it out. It would have been nice if I had made a little more room on the firewall end of the channel mod.

I also used the stock Miata AC lines and simply bent them a little and used those steel O-ringed washers to sandwich them up to the Ford SN95 compressor. The SN95 compressor is in the same general area as the Miata engine has it.

It's actually pretty simple to locate the compressor in place of the air pump.

For what is worth, I was able to mount the dryer in the original location in front of the condenser by using 4 Seasons part #33585. Its smaller in OD and shorter in height than the OEM one. Its tight but it clears everything.

I'd love to sell you a set of hoses but unfortunately they only interface with the Fox compressor, not the SN95 ones. If the Miata hoses actually work like Mike says go that route!

As far as powering it just find the input in the Ford harness for the AC control system and tie the mazda wire that would go into the miata compressor into it at that point. After that eliminate the Ford dryer pressure switch by splicing its wiring to jump it. You'll also need to jump the old Mazda AC input and output wires at the original Miata ECU plugs. Once this is all done you'll have a system that goes on with the Miata dash switch, uses all the Mazda pressure and temp switches but also uses the Ford computer and its control of the CCRM to shut the system down during cranking and WOT, and turns the fans on automatically.

Thanks for the info. Seems like the SN95 was a good choice. The CCRM should make a lot of things much easier.

Does anyone make hoses that will hook up to an SN95 compressor mounted where the smog pump is? Or will I have to make my own?
Ill probably bring the compressor and the alt/smog pump bracket to my buddy who is a machinist and get him to come up with something similar to what was posted above.

We have a local AC repair shop that will make custom hoses. A bit pricey, although I bought some fittings and hose from Vintage Air and made them up and had him crimp them for a reasonable price.

BTW, the mounting plate for the compressor can be as simple as a 1/4" steel plate with some small diameter tubing or pipe welded to it for the hinge. Doesn't have to be a thick piece of aluminum plate.
