Ford FiTech/Sniper users, what intake manifold are you using?
 

I currently have the OEM Ford EFI setup in my car, and am considering pulling it out and going with a more modern setup. Curious about hood clearance with different manifolds. Wondering what everyone is using. I would love to go with a Weiand Stealth manifold, as that seems to be best bang for buck manifold on a street drive 5.0, but am worried about total height with the EFI unit. I have the Martin kit (cut pan/subframe, also shimmed down 3/8) and my engine is pretty low (I have the taller Explorer intake with the lower shaved .25, and it fits fine). Trying to plan things in my head to see what I an do with this.

I am running the fitech with a summit manifold. Using a knockofff cobra aircleaner. Had to remove some webbing to get it to fit. No pics on this tablet but I can add some from the phone if you need them.

Thanks. Still trying to decide what to do, I ended up finding a guy who can chip tune it for me and has a great reputation. May just go that route.

Chip the EEC IV with a custom tune.

So, I ended up finding a local guy that is a well known chip tuner for the old EEC-IV set ups, and gave him my car yesterday to see what he could do. Unfortunately it was cold and raining all day (not the best weather for R1R tires, the thing tried to kill me multiple times on the way home), so he could not do any WOT tuning, but I can say that from what I could tell on the 30 min drive home, the drivability is WAYYYYY better. The 40 MPH 5th gear lugging is completely gone, the hesitation is gone, so much smoother. Very happy with the work so far. It's supposed to be dry today, so I'll try to get it out some more today just to see how it feels, and I'm going to take it back to him in the spring once it warms back up for some WOT tuning/adjustments since the weather screwed things up yesterday.

The coolest part is that this guy is well known in the Mustang/Fox Body community, and is a 9 sec class racer/winner, and had nothing but good things to say about the build. He really liked the car after driving it around for 5 hours tuning it, even in the crappy weather. Just a testament to how cool/fun these cars are.

Anyone looking for a chip tuner and willing to drive to Northern OH for the tune, let me know and I can pass along his info.

A custom tune is a must when you start changing cams and injectors and stuff. Glad to see it worked out well for you.

Yeah, really happy so far. It was nice and dry yesterday, took it out, night and day difference when getting on it in 2nd versus where it was before the tune.

Curious what he tuned with. Tweecer or Quarterhorse?

Not sure what he used as I was not with him, all I know is that he had to burn a chip for the tune.

He probably used a SCT Switchchip.

Could be. I know he said he has a harness that hooks into the ECU for tuning, but ultimately has a chip that is used for the tune when he is done.

Whatever it is it will be plugged into the J3 port on the computer. This is the only way to override the oem programming on the computer. This of course assumes that he is using a Ford A9L PCM.

CRT Performance in Norwalk, perchance? I've had my 1983 Mustang out there a couple of times. Did a great job with a carburetor. I'm sure I'll need to go back when I get a 5.0L in my Miata. :-)
