Clutch push rod to fork interface

I have what I believe is Martins clutch push rod. It is a piece of all thread that is rounded on the slave cylinder end and is machined to be a hex on the fwd end. It has a self locking nut on it. It is made long enough to go right on thru the fork. The problem as I see it is that the hole in the fork is way bigger than the dia of the pushrod. It is even bigger than the nut. Seems like I need to add a washer at a minimum, but even then the pushrod can move outboard and loose some of the fork travel. It seems like something needs to be added to hold the rod in place? Weld a washer to the fork to hold the rod in place? The fork seems to be very hard steel. tried to drill a hole in it and it just laughed at my drill bit.

Did you drill a hole in the fork? In the manual it explains where and what size to drill in the fork.

No. I did not see that. My manual is about 5 years old. Is that a new thing?

Hi Doug,
If using Martin's kit, give him a call for the latest info. Some parts of the manual need to be updated. If not using his kit, you should be able to figure out what size hole you need based on the size of the rod, and position based on the angle of the slave/mounting bracket. And you'll need a hardend bit, or take it to local machine shop.

Sounds like you're making good progress.

Ya I am using Martins kit, but I did not buy it from him, I am the second owner. I bought somebody's project and am completing it. Looks like the fwd end of the push rod will end up, just inside the bell housing.

Hi Doug:

Here is a pic of my slave. I cut the clutch fork about two inches and had to make the existing hole a little bigger. I also recessed the slave into the bell housing about 3/4 - 1 inch to make a straighter throw.

Also, note that I am using a 94 T5z that has a different slave location.

Wow that is really slick! I have punched a new hole in the fork just inbd of the existing one. My slave now extends on the inside of the bell. I think it will work. thanks for the pic
