Catch can - air/oil separator

I bought this Steeda catch can on the advise of a few Mustang guys who have them on their cars. I don't have a lot of room to mount this on the DS firewall as the instructions indicate, so was wondering if a few extra feet of hose would have any adverse effect on the PCV valve operation so I could mount it on the pass side by the fuse box. My washer bottle is being relocated. Loving this car. Brad |
Doesn't really matter where it goes. But it should be lower than the engine ports, so all oil drains into the canister.

Are you having oil sucked into your intake too? I had oil dripping out of my throttle body onto my valve cover after some hard runs. It was coming through the PCV tube. Right now I have installed catch cans on both the valve cover hose and PCV valve hoses and capped the vacuum sources and it rums fine. Seems like from what I read, the long term solution is to add more venting for the crank case by adding a second flow path from the drivers side valve cover. I was looking at one of those air/oil separators also, since I am not ready to take the drivers valve cover off yet. I have the exact same engine that is in my monster, in my 67 mustang except it is carbureted. I have a vented cap on both valve covers and no PCV at all and no problems. |

Through reading online about the oil consumption, I ended up reading a fair bit about blowby and using catch cans. A couple Mustang buddies say that even brand new engine could use catch cans as any chance to eliminate oil going through the intake is a good thing. Side note: since I have 1.7 roller rockers I had to modify the little oil vent cover under the passenger side VC. Most guys just ditch them but I was afraid of oil getting sucked into the TB. To monitor that I also put in a clear fuel filter in that line. So far it has stayed clean, so my VC clearancing seems to be effective. |
Got the can installed tonight. Totally simple job. I ended up making a small bracket and mounted to the drivers side close to the brake booster.
Will get a chance to see how it works after I make a small clutch adjustment- getting a crunch going into 1st. |

Sorry, I don't think I have any shots of the can, and the car is away for the winter.
The bracket I made was just out of a piece of aluminum strip that I bent and mounted near the DS fender. There was an existing hole that I used. Pretty staightforward. |
