Can I use a 1995 Ford Cobra V8 Engine/Transmission with Martin's kit?
Just curious if anyone knows if I can use a 1995 Ford Cobra 5.0 Engine/Transmission with Martin's kit, into an NB1? I'm sure the engine/trans will fit, but I'm worried about the header I'll need to use? Would appreciate any info, if yall have any?
Thanks |
Yes you can use the engine. The headers are supplied in the kit from Martin. The front accessory drive on the 1994-95 engines are different than the 1986-93. The T-5 transmission from the 1994-95 has a longer input shaft thus requiring a unique bellhousing.

I've got a ton of questions and have been playing phone tag with Martin the last 2 days, LOL! |
The 94/95 transmission input shaft is 5/8 inch longer than on the Fox bodies; this moves the shifter back about the same distance and also probably means a slightly shorter driveshaft for the swap. On mine, I went with a new Fox bell housing so I could use an off the shelf T5z with the better ratios. You can also supposedly get a longer input shaft put into a new T5z if you prefer.
The wiring for the SN95 engines is slightly different from Martin's manual. You can search the "other" engine conversion forum, I believe someone on there did a write-up on the differences several years ago. On mine, I got schematics for the 95 Miata and the 95 Mustang and sorted it out. I used the Mustang CCRM controller to run the AC, fans, and fuel pump, and used Ford Contour fans. AC hookup required a relay to reverse the polarity of the switch to keep the factory look. The short front accessories of the SN95 let you use puller fans, like I did, and give a lot more working room between the engine and radiator. The SN95 has a smaller intake which on mine meant that I didn't have to cut any hood webbing. The 94/95 Cobra intake might give the same result. TM |
