A/C line in front of engine hits airpump?
I am looking for help understanding how the larger of the two Miata A/C hardline that runs down the passenger side of the engine compartment and then makes a 90 degree turn toward the middle of the engine bay is supposed to clear the airpump? or airpump delete pulley in my case. I have not installed my engine yet, but it sure looks like it is going to hit. Does anyone have a picture of how this clears. I have included a picture of my engine with the airpump delete pulley installed and a pic showing the a/c hard line in question. thanks for your help?
Do you need the air pump delete pulley? I am doing a similar setup that eliminates the air pump and just drives the water pump, alternator and a/c compressor. I just used a shorter belt.
I may not need it. I just happened to have one and thought I would use it and run the standard length belt. I have never seen a picture of how that a/c hard line misses the front of the engine. It seems like it is pointed right at it. What belt length
did you use?
did you use?
I used a 70.5" I haven't touched the car yet, so I can't offer any insight on the lines. I have my engine completely rebuilt and ready to go. Its equipped the same as yours, except I have the stock rockers. Since you'll probably finish before me, I'll be watching for posts on your progress.
I honestly have never used the smog pump and really didn't design the lines with one in mind. The air injection system was really designed to help the older style of converter function by introducing fresh air into the exhaust. Newer types of converters are more efficient, thus why cars no longer have the pumps. Most people building these cars use new converters so the air pump is redundant. Really the only people who would have to use it are those in states where the equipment from the donor car has to be exactly the same.
Using a delete pulley is not needed and just adds another moving part that could fail. Since you're hopefully using a new belt anyhow just go with one that is shorter and sell the delete pulley to someone on the Mustang Corral or eBay.

OK. The air pump delete pulley is gone and a shorter belt is coming. Thanks for clearing that up. I am going to finish installing the steering shaft through the drivers side header and then I think I am ready to set the engine into the car!
