5.0 MAF sensor issue
 

I recently purchased a new MAF from PRO-M-Racing to replace the dead MAF that is in my Miata. Naturally, the new MAF has a different size inlet diameter.

I talked to one of the tech's at PRO-M and he told me that I have to have at least 12" of tubing between the throttle body and the MAF. I don't see any way I can get 12" of tubing to fit no matter how many elbows / whatever I use. There is a very limited amount of physical space especially considering that I have a '92 with ABS.

What does everyone do about this? Is it important and if so, how much?

Have you asked this question on the FFcars forum?

Check with "Mustang Man" (Mark is the Editor at Modified Mustangs & Fords Magazine) as he is out of Lakeland, Florida and may have a shop close to you to get the minor bugs worked out.

Maybe you can get him to do an article on the car....Now that would be really cool....:yippee:

The difficulty in trying to fab a cold air intake is the PRO-M Racing MAF has an integrated air cleaner. The assembly is 10 1/2" long and about 7" in diameter. I'd have to move the whole thing inside the wheel well. If I lived in a desert environment, I don't think that would be a problem. However, I live in Florida where we get real heavy rains. I'd have to build an airbox inside the fender to keep the rain from hydrolocking my engine. Here is what it looks like:

Got one more for you, on the bottom of the upper intake, Steve (the other Steve ;) ) was going to plug some of the unneeded vacuum ports. A small vacuum leak would also cause the idle swing you were experiencing before you left my house for the trip back to Florida. Have you checked the vacuum lines in the engine compartment for cracks or leaks yet?

Post a picture of your engine bay so we can get a better idea of the issue. I have a 1994 with ABS and had no issues locating the mass air 12" from the throttle. The stock air tube should work fine in most cases.
