Yes, I'll admit the title is a bit misleading since I haven't tried all the windblockers available.....but when I pull my cap off at 70 mph with the windows up and my hair does not blow around at alland the cockpit is as quite with the top down as up (at 70).....I'll stand by the title opinion.

The wind blocker is a piece of 20"x40" 1/4" acrylic from Lowe's ($57 for a 24x48 piece). It secured with a couple pieces of Velcro found in the shop.

Since the wife has long hair, I've heard plenty about wind blown hair with the Miata, which is funny since that wasn't a problem with the Truimphs and Fiats from 3 and 4 decades ago. But to the point, this thing makes 70 sound and seem like 40 with the top and windows down.

Money and time well spent.

Nice. I want to do something similar but inside the hoop. Does inside the hoop vs further out like yours make a difference in function? My preference is for aesthetics preference, but if function is sacrificed I might change my mind.

To me the objectionable wind with stock seats comes up between the seats. On cooler days my right shoulder would get cold. With the racing seats wind also comes though the harness holes. Wifey finds the wind after the Tex-mex dinner the worst though...

Michael, I can't say for sure. If I had to guess I'd say the extra 2 (or so) inches on each side of mine don't make much of a difference....however my goal was maximum benefit and not so much aesthetics. It'd be simple enough to make the edges match the outside edge of the vertical bracers on the roll bar. This would make for a sturdy and easily secured with Velcro wind blocker.

Jim, thanks and no problem. I can't take credit for the idea since I stumbled across another posters write-up a year or so ago and just stuck the idea in a dusty old mental file cabinet till last week. That's when I broke the 1/8" blocker I'd made a couple years ago that attached to the seat backs and only worked slightly better than nothing.

I was actually curious about the fore/aft mounting position (in front of hoop vs outside the angled braces). I think your second comment may have answered it though. Or what do you think the issue was with the seat attached version?

I think the biggest advantage of the current blocker is, it's just bigger. Since it's taller than our heads, we're totally protected from the wrap-around wind (or as sailors say, apparent wind).

Once again, bigger is better :)

I was thinking about this and wondering why the velcro. Is there ever a time you would take it off? I could see maybe a track day or romp past 100 but other than that why would you ever remove it?

Good question. I guess the quick answer is it seemed like the thing to do. After a moments reflection.... we don't have ac (yet) and when forced to use the freeway for extended times in the summer we sometimes unzip the rear window, making for a shaded/cooler drive. The blocker would likely make this a non option, both from lack of access to the zipper and no air flow. Also, with the top up or hardtop on you do have greater access to the rear shelf without the blocker in place.

And, Velcro is easy and works :)
