Default Build thread section update thoughts

It seemed to make sense to split the build thread section up like we have the V8 engine section above. Most folks pretty much know what they want to build when they get here and having them split like it is now, Ford, GM and other I think would make things easier.

I'd like to sticky some of the more complete and well done threads to keep them on top. I don't want to single anyone out but I think it would be handy for people doing research to start with the best threads. It would keep older ones that don't get posted in much in the first page and maybe encourage people to do better threads too.

So I wanted to know your thoughts on that. Would you feel bad if your thread was not stickied? Do you have any threads you feel should or should not be stickied? What about threads like mine that are really just pointing you off site? https://www.v8miata.net/general-moto...onversion-793/ What about a thread that is just video links like Gabes?

I'd like to hear what you guys think on this.

Cool Pictures are always good

I think it's a great idea to sticky good ideas and smooth builds. Sharing ideas is what keeps this sport safer. Sometimes more eyes can point out an over looked design error. Would not care if my ideas were stickies or NOT just happy to share my thoughts and experiances.

I get the desire to sticky certain threads, but that ends up with a messy forum down the road with a page full of stickies. I've seen other enthusiasts sites use an index thread that links to the desired threads. That way no matter how far down they far over time the link always works. Links can even go to particularly valuable posts buried deep in a thread.

I may have some links saved in my book marks that would be helpful for the reference section. I'll check

How about leave all the old and new posts under the general Builds categorie, but then have the Sub categories under that if people want to stick to their own type. I'm still finishing my Ford build, so I'm more interested in those, but I found myself reading all the LS builds too. With them split up, I'm less likely to open that door to peak at inside.

Brad I think I am not following you because what you suggest is exactly what we did! The threads are still listed in the main section just as they always were and that will continue to update. Then they are subdivided as well just like the engine questions section.

Yes, I see that there is a link to the thread in it's sub category Possible to have the thread itself in the main category? I guess that may mean too much duplication. I guess I liked it better the old way, but it doesn't matter. I can get used to it.

Yep that could be done it would just reverse the way it is now but as a practical matter it doesn't make any difference. Whether link is in the sub or the main it's still going to go to the thread.

I guess what I don't care for is that the threads in the Main section don't show as updated when there is a new post, nor do they show up in the Recent Posts column to the right. Seems to disrupt the way I surf this forum, but still an insignificant gripe (especially since I'm the only dissenter).
Carry on

You can just add a require prefix in front of the subject line right
Chevy / Ford / other

Ford, GM and Other seems a bit odd but it's limited to 6 characters so I can't put Other MFG. Also there seems to be no way to sort on the prefix. Thoughts?

BTW we can add the prefix to existing threads but it's going to show I edited the first post of the thread. Not sure how guys would feel about that. They can do it themselves too.

You can put a filter for them under "display option " in the lower left.

LOL if dopes like me could ever figure that out! This prefix could be applied to all new threads in any category easy enough. Thoughts?

I have to tell you I rather like the filing drawer set up it is now though...

Most threads already state in the title what they are building. For example mine is 95 LS Budget Build.
