Road Atlanta April 24-26, 2015 the first ever invasion of V8 Miatas at Mitty!
Wasn't really sure what "The Mitty" was & read about the event today. Originally, thought we'd get some on track time while there. That's a long way to go & not be able to use the car. Any locals wanna show us the "fun" roads while we're there?
I'd say "Tail of the Dragon," but have heard it's over crowded due to its' popularity.

I have never been to the event but isn't Thursdays test and tune open to anyone? If you look at last years schedule it looks like a normal track day that anyone could pay the $$ and run.
But yeah we need to get one of our Atlanta guys to map us out a nice twisty back road with very little traffic on it for a cruise! The local Miata club is stoked we are coming and I can ask them or maybe tbone or Shannon would want to map something out.

Saturday is the best day for the Mitty. I attended it on a Sunday a few years ago & found that half of the cars were loaded up & headed home. The racing is pretty fun to watch, but viewing the cars in the paddock is amazing.
I am sure that the guys at mx5atlanta can find you some good roads to cruise on.

There are several excellent drives up in that area. I have driven them all, however, I could not tell you the road numbers/names combinations for the loops. Hwy 60 and/or 180 are also very good drives. 180 is a little rougher. 60 all the way to Morganton is a very nice ride.
The MX5 Atlanta club often does those drives with groups.

This is an entertaining loop, but it's hard to go wrong. Pick a squiggly road and drive it.

Cherohala Skyway is a great drive also: Cherohala Skyway, mile high legend from Robbinsville NC to Tellico Plains TN
Lots of links and info here: Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap, motorcycle and sport car two lane tourism serving Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap, Cherohala Skyway, Moonshiner28, Devils Triangle, and Six Gap North Georgia.

We've moved from the maybe list to the attending list. Are there enough people confirmed to discuss details? We tentatively plan to drive down on Thursday to attend on Friday, Saturday; returning Sunday.
^^ Pretty much my plan too except for me it's a 2 day trip. Check that - my car was built by the road kill guys so the trip could take from 2 days to 2 weeks depending on what goes wrong....
I've never been to the event so don't know how things work at all. I would assume guys will want to walk the car show and watch some racing. For us we need a time when we can all be together for a photo opp, then cruise the hills for a couple hours and do either lunch or dinner depending on the time of day.
Anyone been to mitty that can tell us how the event works and what it's like to attend?

Yah, many of us are traveling a long way. Hoping we get @ least two days out of it.
About the Mitty: it's a vintage race weekend. The track is full other than some heavily escorted parade laps. I've heard stories of high speeds on those, but my personal experience has been very slow.
It also attracts a huge number of clubs. Saturday is a great car show, both in the pits and parked in the paddock. We'll have a corral for V8 Miatas set up. It'll be a good opportunity to check out other builds and catch some great racing.

OK so Saturday is the day then but it sounds like we would want to be there most of the day to hang out. So what do you guys think? Would it work better to do a morning cruise up in the hills rather than in the afternoon or evening? Probably be less traffic then.
Thee have been some mentions of a "test and tune" day on Thursday. Nobody at Grassroots Motorsports knows anything about that. Who's got any sort of info to share? Even the source of the rumor would be good.
Reading the paper work from last year it's not clear if the Thursday open track is just for registered racers or open to anyone that would pay the fee. One of our guys toysnake went last year and from the way he talked it sounded like would have been an option for him to get out on the track but maybe that was just the parade thing.
Check this out: http://www.hsrrace.com/2014_Events/M...y_Schedule.pdf The only hint is at the bottom when it says test day will be in the order of your race group. To me that makes it look like racers only on the track but it really doesn't say one way or the other.
If GRM doesn't know about it then it must be only open to racers.
