Default Unique V8 347 Ford in Canada - SOLD -

Pics at http://www.dropbox.com/gallery/28242...Miata?h=3cd9e6

Red 1990 V8 Miata. Asking $27,500

48,000 original miles (not km), appraised last year and insured for $45,000.

The Details:
347 stroker engine built by Precise Engine Builders in Calgary
Balanced and blueprinted, solid roller custom camshaft
10.5:1 compression – runs well on 91 octane gas
All forged engine internals
Megasquirt iiix engine management, including EGT measurement system
EFI intake = Edelbrock RPM performer carb style
Weber 1000cfm throttle body
V8 Roadsters tubular front subframe
T5 WC transmission, Steeda Tri-Ax shifter, Ford Cobra clutch
Ford 7.5 LSD 3.27 diff
Ground Control coil-overs and Koni race shocks
Moss low profile kit with Bosch headlamps
Boss frog Frog Arms
Momo steering wheel
Custom cloth seat covers with V8 logo
Flyin’ Miata frame rails
Polyurethane suspension bushings with grease nipples
Jackson Racing front bumper
Custom rear spoiler
Custom stereo with subs in rear deck and amp in trunk
Gauges all work
Chromed Duece rollbar
Goodwin Big Brake kit and stainless steel brake lines
16 x 8” 6UL rims
Somewhat worn 225/50-16” tires ;-)
Interior fully heat wrapped and dynamatted
Top and paint original and in good condition

I have taken this car on three 3000+ mile muti-week road trips. So it is about as reliable as any custom conversion is going to be

The interesting:
This is the first home built V8 Miata, as proven by articles and a write up in Norman Garrett’s book. Car has been significantly modified since the write up.
Have magazine, newspaper and book to go with car.
Car was driven and signed (inside of trunk lid) by the creator of the Miata, Takao Kijimi
Written up as the October 2008 Miata of the Month at maita.net

Extras:
Cruise control kit in a box, not installed
Turn signal intakes, not installed
Extra solid roller cam with more radical profile
Front sway bar – not installed
Extra amp sometimes used for subwoofers (I didn’t need the extra “thump”)

The bad:
No A/C or ABS

No joyrides. Serious inquires only. References upon request from other V8 owners in Calgary.

Life style changes are encouraging the sale. Looking at E46 M3 BMW convertibles…

Look at some past posts... for example,

https://www.v8miata.net/cars-sale-4/1993-mazda-miata-built-v8-493/

Your car is awesome, and if it wasn't so far away from Toronto, I'd be interested.
I don't know if you'll get over 20k for it, even then it will most likely be hard.

I could drive it out, or you could fly out and look at it. I have bought more than one car sight unseen. Make me an offer.

315HP 303 Torque, according to this dyno plot from a Mustang Dyno at 3500'. This was with the 347, but before the rebuild, which upped the compression and added the solid roller cam, and before the MegaSquirt. I estimate we added at least 50/50 HP/Tq.

I am in the midst of tuning the car using an EGT setup, and after that will take it back to the dyno. Hoping to see 400 RWHP or more.

Wonder how hard it would be to get this past inspection in Toronto... weld some cats on and cross fingers?

What are the pollution control requirements? Cats are easy to add. Often not necessary if they are just doing a tailpipe sniff. With the Megasquirt, you can tune it for whatever it takes to pass, and then retune for power/economy as you desire.

So what price would it take to get people interested?

I payed $17k for mine a couple years ago, in BC. Well used 302, looks to be pretty much stock. Old rusty exhaust, pretty sloppy suspension, little bit of rust on the rockers. In decent shape overall.
Bishop in vancouver was asking $21k (If i recall correctly) for a basic ford conversion when I was looking. I missed out on the one they had for sale though, but their website showed that they had sold a couple of them at least. I seem to recall a few others around that price range at the time.
So it seems that in BC a pretty much "stock" ford conversion goes for somewhere around $17-$20k assuming that they sold for around what they were asking.
Those cars don't really compare to yours though..
Dont know if that helps at all.

That does help put it in perspective. The other way to look at it is the car is low mileage, plus you would have to pay FM $30K to do the conversion.

That said, times are tough.

I do want to sell it this year. The weather has been just terrible, so I have only had it out a few times so far. As I dial in the tune with the MegaSquirt it just gets faster and better all the time. Plus the fuel economy is getting better.. as if that matters!

Your telling me.. (actually had a few good days the last week or so)
I don't even think I'm gonna bother taking mine out of storage this year. Just in protest to the weather last year. I had time to drive it, it was insured, running good.... drove it maybe a handful of times.
Rain... Rain... Rain...
Frustrating.

Good luck with the sale

Vic, I will be back in Calgary in two weeks. Was there last week flying home from Denver but didn't have enough time between flights to try and get together. If your car is still available I would like to come look at it. You don't have front anti-sway bar correct?

June 23-24 I riding on the RIDE to Conquer Cancer. Other than that, I can be available most anytime. email me at mx5@shaw.ca for contact info.

I do have a front sway, from a '64 Ford Galaxy no less. Nice, because it goes around the harmonic balancer without having to use long stools for the mounts. I don't have it installed though, because based on track testing I was no faster with it on that without. And the tires rubbed at extreme wheel lock (function of the 225/50-15's I have on the car. Next tires will be 225-45/15 and should not have that issue).

Thanks. Booming is relative. House prices are much lower than they were 3 years ago, and folks are very very cautious. Oil prices are low (inflation adjusted) and Natural Gas is stupid low. It costs more to get the stuff out of the ground than we are getting for it. Not sustainable. So there is a lot of fear that a major collapse could happen any time.

Rained all weekend again... You would think we lived on the wet coast.. https://www.v8miata.net/v8m/images/icons/icon9.gif

I'd say that it has to be at 20k or lower to garner interest. I know that you have a lot more time and money into it but unfortunately when we have custom cars we usually don't get every dollar out if them unless the are classics. This isn't always true though, someone could come across a rolling chassis for $500, find a complete engine and tranny for $1000 and have less than 10k in the build. It just all depends but I'd suggest looking at the prices others are listed for. Good luck!

Well, I sold my OTM yesterday, and am now turning the V8 Miata into my DD (after I get the insurance squared away). That said, I am more keen than ever to sell it and get into something I would be willing to drive year round.

Make me an offer folks.... my biggest concern is that get into the hands of someone who will appreciate it and drive it more than I do...

It looks like I may have found my replacement car for the Miata.

So, I am now even more motivated to sell.

Price reduced to $20K, OBO.

Good luck with the sale. Should sell at that price one would think. One province over I payed nearly that for a stock 302, and even then I didn't get that "I overpaid" buyers remorse thing. Hate that feeling...
I think if it doesnt sell at that price then its not a problem with price, maybe there just isnt a buyer out there for it at the moment. I'm sure one will show up.
