Default Emissions Testing North Carolina LS3 NC?

Hello,
Looking for some inputs from the experts out there.. Finally got our 06 Miata running / driving - LS3 conversion. I'm located in North Carolina. Has anyone been able to pass the emission testing? The car has a 2010 camaro ECU.

I know the smaller counties only do a visual emission test - no ODBII hook up. The car currently is located in a bigger city that does. But the owner also has a house in the mountains that I'm assuming doesn't do a hook up. Would this be the only option to get it passed?

Inputs?

Thanks

I've been through the OBD2 plug-in test twice since finishing my swap.

In my area they plug into the OBD2 port and do a quick visual under the car with a mirror on a stick to look for cats. 99% of the inspectors around here don't even know what a catalytic converter is, let alone what one looks like. But if you want to make sure this isn't an issue, put a small resonator where the cats would normally reside.

As far as the OBD2 plug-in test goes... all they are looking for is the correct Miata VIN number to match up with what they have on record for the car, and that you don't have any check engine codes. HP Tuners won't allow you to change the 2010 Camaro VIN to a Mazda VIN but if you can find someone with EFI Live, they will be able to change the VIN for you in about 5 minutes without using any credits or anything. Find a shop to make the change for you before the test, then have them change it back after the test....or just load the same tune into a second ECU and leave the Miata VIN in it for testing.

Nothing better than rolling up with a lumpy cam and no emissions equipment at all and getting the green light for 2 more years

Thanks GoKart.. This is exactly what I was looking for. We will need to add Cat's / resonator - not a big deal.. Really appreciate the input... Car goes off for paint/interior on Monday and after a 2 months we will be ready to get it road legal...

I laughed when you said the tech's don't even know what a cat looks like.. When I bring in my 911 they ask me to open my hood - then they stand there and go - motor must be in the back - duh..

Thanks!

if you had a 1990 you would almost be emissions exempt.

This is one category where the newer cars have it easier...at least in the areas where they just do the plug in test. My car would never pass the pre-OBD2 sniffer test.
