My recent experience with experienced diff builders is terrible gear wine with new gears installed. They say it is because of the new gears themselves. Car sounded like it had a turbo back there... I put used gears in myself with much much better results. (not the miata but a 9 inch in a different car).

If you are just swapping from an open carrier to a Trac-Loc carrier, you should be fine. I am not really clear on what it is EXACTLY that you are trying to do. If you are changing gear ratios from one case to the other, you will need some special tools.

Just want to put the limited slip in the carrier from my 2.73 diff to the 3.27 one.
I have 2 complete diff and i don't want to play with the pinion.

Should not be a problem. Be sure to check your ring gear backlash before you remove the open carrier & make sure your locking carrier is set to the same backlash when you install it.

I agree with tbone --- just double check the backlash before and after and keep good track of any shims. I picked up a F0RD service tool set off of Fleabay for cheap that has the right pinion depth tools and case spreader ect. that makes the job easier now, but I did 50 or so swaps before the tools learning from Trial and Error and advice from a drag race friend that owns a trans / rear shop. They do howl when set up wrong, get very clunky sounding with too much backlash. Now with the internet available, a person can go in with some knowledge on contact pattern and what way to shim to adjust.
Sebz --- with your DIY talent and willingness to jump in and learn will do just fine.
