Default A Question from someone confused

Ok I am looking around for parts to do my 5.0 conversion, and was looking on a recyclers site for a rear end. What has me confused is when I pulled up Differential, it said to also check for a carrier, and vise-a-versa. Are these the same part or am I missing something here....thank you ahead of time for any help I can get. I did research this in the threads and could not find anything on the carriers.

Generally speaking the differential is the hole assembly (hub to hub) and the carrier or (pumpkin) is just the center section that houses gears. The 7.5 will be more round, the 8.8 is rounded on top and bottom with straight sides.

Thank you SCOTTGILL. I was confused as they had the Differential listed, the carrier listed then the differential with out the gears (empty Shell) listed. Thank you for getting me going in the right direction. Eric

It's best to clarify and ask the place selling it. I've seen whole units referred to as numerous different names including carrier, center section, differential, etc.

Thanks for the suggestion on clarifying what it is I'm ordering. Always the best thing to do...

What Steve said. Are you using car-part.com or some other search engine? Just have to use all the names you can think of.

Yes exactly charchi4 car-part.com. really tired of using google and having to go thru what winds up being a parts broker instead of an actual recycler like the person claims they are. I mean really, " Oh I have that part for you it's cleaned and inspected and I can have it for you in just a couple of days, only to take several days, weeks or maybe a month, and it's dirty and greasy and came from 1000 miles from where the people are you talked to, to order it in the first place...
