Default Diesel POWER!

Hey all so i haven't picked up my miata yet... but this is my future big project. I'm looking at the 7.3L ford powerstroke engine as my power plant. Here are my questions.

What do you think?
Will it even fit?
Has anyone heard of this?
Whats the biggest engine you've seen in a miata?

thanks all!

Oh, hey. Diesel power. Now you speak my language.
Off the top of my head, a cummins 4bt weights roughly 700lbs dry. This can be a 3.3, 3.9, 4.5l motor, 4cyl. A ford 7.3 powerstroke turbo weighs ~930 dry, ~960 wet, and 1000-1100 fully assembled w/acc, turbo, etc. And a proper transmission, (there is a ZF 6-speed as an option in 200x 250s) and you are talking 2-3x the weight of an LSx. and then the torque, with our tire options. OOF.

If you want to go diesel, I'd talk about VW 4cyl power plants, or other car sized motors.

Also, I'm going to get some pictures later of some of my diesel projects.

Think 12.1 to 35 and 50liters.

What do you think? To be honest I can't think of a worse choice but what do I know. I would very much like to know why you want to use this motor and what you want to do with the car when it is done.

Will it even fit? Yes. With enough money and talent you could put that powerstroke on a roller skate if you wanted to

Has anyone heard of this? Nope but I still can't figure out why anyone would want to so never really looked either

Whats the biggest engine you've seen in a miata? Physical size and displacement the V12 Nick mentioned for HP a turbo LS

thanks all!
Just so you know if I were you I wouldn't ask this over on m.net and for sure not dumb roadster because they will skin you alive. For us if we can just understand the mission and purpose of the swap we'll play nice.

Can't wait to hear more about what you want to do! Welcome to the forum!

yeah im pretty sure im going for the cummins 4bt. honestly charchri4 i just want to be different lol. iv seen a lot of v8 swaps and i just think it would be sick to see a miata blowing black clouds from the exhuast and having that turbo diesel truck sound bellowing under the hood. the ford v8 powerstroke would be sick but it is a bit too much im thinking now. not just the weight but also the power.

Hi Kingwolf, a Diesel sounds really cool, but i'm just wondering how you'll swing the emissions with it? in my area the car still has to pass the same emissions level as the car was originally manufactured for no matter what engine you put in.. something to think about..

not sure.. but iv been doing a lot of math and research and i don't think my diesel idea is ideal for the miata i think its gona be wayyyyy to heavy in the front end. i think ima do a 350 small block single turbo build now instead.

Not that I want to encourage this but there are lighter diesel engines than the 7.3 power stroke out there ya know...
